Details:We know you loved the Behind the Scenes education program with FFA in October, so we're bringing you another exclusive opportunity in May! This time, we're teaming up with the 500 Festival to bring you access to the inner workings of the IPL 500 Festival Parade. This educational program has been designed to provide Indiana event planners, suppliers, and students with the ability to learn how one of the largest float-based parades in the country is planned and executed. The behind the scenes program will include activities on two separate days allowing the opportunity to ask planning questions among a variety of event stakeholders, while also getting to see the execution of work live.

This two-part opportunity will take place as follows -

Wednesday, May 23rd, 4:00pm - 7:00pm
The first part of the program will bring MPI Indiana attendees to the Parade Planning Committee’s Float Preview Party. This event is held annually at EXPODESIGN (720 S. Belmont Ave) to recognize the work of the group, finalize event information, communicate final details to area leaders, preview the parade floats, and award float competition winners.

MPI Indiana attendees will observe the committee meeting from 4pm - 5pm. During the preview party, MPI Indiana attendees will get the opportunity to hear from and question individuals involved in multiple elements of the parade planning process, preview the floats with the committee, and join the committee in reception / celebration fare.

Highlights and topics we'll cover:
  • 500 Festival Staff – Overall management, media engagement, float/parade element organization process, sponsor engagement, volunteer management
  • EXPODESIGN Staff – Float design, construction, insurance, and permitting
  • IMPD – City resource allocation, safety, risk planning, crisis management
  • Legacy Planning Committee Member – How the parade has evolved, why, and how
  • Markey’s  – Audio visual needs and production

Saturday, May 26th, 7:30am - 1:30pm
The second part of the program will bring MPI Indiana attendees to the actual parade day to observe multiple elements of the event in live production. We recognize that this falls on a holiday weekend, and that some attendees may not be able to join for the parade. Have no fear! We'll be taking plenty of video, and the footage will be hosted and available to view in lieu of attending.

MPI Indiana attendees should dress for the weather (the day is rain or shine) and in comfortable shoes. You will be given volunteer shirts and credentials. The group will be doing a lot of walking that will be back and forth along the event area to enable them to observe different activities, based on the parade schedule.

Highlights and topics we'll cover:
  • Balloon Inflation
  • TV Area Dress Rehearsal
  • Float Marshalling
  • Social Media Command Center
  • Parade Start with Anthem, Flyover, Opening
  • TV Area Clean Up

NOTE: Registration will be capped at 30 attendees for this program. The registration rate includes both sessions, and does not change if you are only able to participate in one or the other.
