GENERAL STATEMENT/ ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, and inspection of the interceptor sewer system and treatments facilities which ranges from 8in. to 97in. sewer mains over a 750 square mile service area. Works under the direction of a Transmission Supervisor. May be assigned work by a Collection System Operator II or Collection System Operator – Lead. May provide direction to Collection Technicians. Conducts work independently consistent with the designation as a CSO I or CSO II.



TYPICAL DUTIES:
Operates and transport heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, backhoe with removable attachments, skid steer, mobile cranes, dual axle dump trucks with trailer, and heavy duty/all-terrain forklift.
Inspects, maintains, and repairs small engine equipment such as demo saws, plate tamper, chain saws, weed eaters etc.
Prepares documentation such as inspection reports, line cleaning reports, flow monitoring field sheets, etc. to support various District programs through the proficient use of computers and portable devices.
Responds to interceptor emergencies to investigate complaints, remove obstructions to prevent or correct surcharge or SSO condition, control odors and prevent damage to District or private property.
Set up traffic control in accordance with the MUTCD.
Performs other related duties as required.


Sampling:

Install, Operate, and maintain precise stationary or portable flow metering equipment at assigned metering locations. Install, Operate and maintain precise portable and stationary wastewater sampling equipment (often requiring confined space entry). Uses computers to collect and input flow measurement and industrial pretreatment data into various databases.
Collects time/flow composite and grab samples for the industrial pretreatment program using the equipment and procedures mandated by the District's sampling programs and approved by the EPA. Delivers time sensitive samples to Laboratory Services Department for analysis.
Keeps an accurate record of sample possession through the use of chain-of-custody logs.
Line Cleaning/Inspection:
Operates and maintains equipment necessary to perform surface and subsurface inspection of interceptor sewers and pipelines such as multi-conductor CCTV equipment. Uses computers to collect and input data (needed to support the District rehabilitation programs) into various inspection databases.
Operate and Maintains lift and pump stations.
Operate high pressure jet/vac trucks in order to perform preventative and emergency maintenance and hydro excavate.

Construction:
Operates, maintains, and repairs interceptor sewers, District distribution lines, metering facilities (to include flume installation) and other hydraulic structures through the use of heavy equipment, power tools, and hand tools. Conduct minor rehabilitation projects on all offsite District facilities (sanitary sewers, manholes, metering facilities, diversion structures, lift/pump stations etc.).
Uses drawings to accurately, safely, and efficiently identify and locate the Districts underground utilities including the use of electronic locating equipment and maintains accuracy throughout all reporting actions.
Inspects the construction of new Transmission facilities or modifications to existing facilities.
Conducts snow removal using truck mounted plows and sanding equipment.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and two years of experience working with a wastewater collection system. Ability to interpret data trends, comprehend written technical procedures and manuals, and ability to do mathematics using decimals and fractions. Must have a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker and air brake endorsements (with the ability to upgrade to a Class A within 18 months of hire) and Collection System Operator certification Class II from the State of Colorado (or the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire). Qualified Rigger and Signalperson, Qualified Overhead Crane Operator, Qualified Mobile Crane Operator, and Confined Space training. Proven ability to prioritize and multi-task in a high-activity work environment.

Desired Qualifications
Distribution Operator Certification Class I from State of Colorado. Vocational, technical, military training and/or college coursework. Hands–on experience monitoring technical systems/equipment and following Standard Operating Procedures for complex processes. Proven ability to conduct field measurements, observations and analyses. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills sufficient to perform equipment inspections and adjustments as well as planned maintenance activities. Demonstrated interpersonal and communications skills sufficient to interact effectively in a team based environment. Strong work ethic with proven success operating autonomously supporting high safety standards/practices. Associate's degree in wastewater technology or engineering technology.
