DEFINITION
Perform a variety of customer service and preventative maintenance duties in the maintenance of City public infrastructure and property. This position must work well in group setting/peers and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from Utilities administration. Receives general supervision from Water Supervisor or Wastewater Supervisor on some select activities. Exercises supervision over the Senior Utility Service Worker, and Utility Service Worker I and II.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Promotes productive work environment. Instructs, trains, and ensures assigned work is completed. Inspects work performed by other service workers.
Evaluates crew members. Monitors and adheres to field operations budgets. Inspects pump stations, water storage reservoirs, and construction work.
Repairs and/or replaces fire hydrants, meter vaults, water pumps, water distribution lines, and water valves. Paints fire hydrants. Rotates system valves.
Performs maintenance on water meters. Installs taps on water mains. Operates, cleans, repairs, and maintains equipment such as pipe locators, meter test units, backhoe, front end loader, and single and tandem axle pump dump trucks. Excavates, inspects, cleans, and repairs water mains and service lines. Locates mains and installations for crews and contractors. Cleans and maintains pumping station equipment and checks and replaces pump lubrication. Installs street barricades and cones prior to the performance of construction and repair activities. Directs and controls traffic around work sites. Responds to requests and inquiries from customers of water utilities and from the public. Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Works on-call, overtime, and holidays as needed by Supervisor.


Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Municipal water distribution systems. Operation of equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, and single and tandem axle dump trucks. Operation of a variety of hand tools such as jackhammers, shovels, picks, and valve wrenches. Safety policies, procedures and practices. Municipal codes and specifications pertaining to pipe and water system accessories. Computer software such as Excel, Word, and other water maintenance software.

Ability to:
Lift approximately 50 pounds in moving and operating jackhammer and removing asphalt and concrete in repair and installation areas. Work in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold, high vehicle traffic areas, exposure to vehicle fumes, dust, and chemical compounds. Work scheduled and non-scheduled overtime. Follow verbal and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other co-workers, and the general public. Respond to citizen complaints in a prompt manner.
Perform heavy manual labor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent. Must possess a Colorado Water Collection Class III Certification and be able to acquire a Colorado Wastewater Distribution Class III within one year. Three (3) years' public works construction and maintenance experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must perform heavy manual labor, including shoveling and lifting. Lifting and carrying at least 50 lbs. Extended physical exertion during sometimes extreme weather conditions. Stoop, bend and crouch for extended periods of time.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
