SUMMARY
Operates all plant processes for the water treatment plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
Operates, monitors, and maintains plant processes such as plant flow control, filtration, and wastewater sludge, and effluent processing.Monitors on-line analytical equipment, takes samples, performs laboratory analyses, reports results, and makes adjustments to processes.
Maintains records for State quality monitoring, State and Federal standards, and records of plant operations.Handles chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, corrosives, and asphyxiants.
Coordinates responses to alarms and emergencies at facilities.
Inspects and maintains process instrumentation and equipment. May write operating procedures of plant processes.
May assist in the design and implementation of new systems and processes. May provide training for crew members.
Will be required to work a rotating Shift including nights, days, weekends and Holidays.
Frequently acts as duty charge operator on assigned shifts; may supervise assigned staff in absence of lead operator or superintendent.
Maintains cleanliness of the treatment plant.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of state, local, water quality standards and regulations.
Ability to obtain Level A water treatment operators certification within 4 years of hire date. Ability to handle hazardous materials in a safe manner.
Ability to interpret and apply City policies and safety regulations.
Ability to use process control, photo editing, word processing, graphics, database and spreadsheet software.
Ability to coordinate teams and projects. Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
Ability to interface effectively with City staff and the general public. Good verbal and written communication skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two to five years related experience in water treatment plant operations; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Colorado D or higher water treatment operator’s certification. Obtain Level A water treatment operators certification within 4 years of hire date.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Colorado Driver's License
Colorado Class D to A Water Treatment Operators Certification
CPR/First Aid Certification encouraged
THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN
Confined Space Entry Certification
Hazardous Material Awareness Certification
Forklift Certification.
Lock out/Tag out Certification

The employee frequently is required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
