GENERAL STATEMENT/ ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supports the Metro District's Public Information objectives by performing media and public education duties for a variety of stakeholders – includes representing the District to the public, connectors, and the community. Assists with the expansion of electronic communication capabilities at the District. Works under the general direction of the Public Information Officer.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Prepares external news releases and may serve as the initial point of contact of media inquiries when needed.
Manages Public Information website inquiries. Collaborates with subject-matter experts as needed to draft and distribute responses.
Maintains and develops content for the Newsroom section of the Metro District's external website. Assists with the development and maintenance of a digital presence.
Assists with the development of strategy to address issues of public, news media, and employee interest as directed.
Conducts overview tours of the District's two treatment facilities (Robert W. Hite Treatment Facility and the Northern Treatment Plant) and manages logistics. Assists when subject-matter experts lead site visits at both treatment facilities and the METROGRO Farm. Drives the Metro District's 15 passenger vans as needed.
Represents the District at a variety of school education events, which includes presenting at multiple water festivals and staffing booths at community events. Coordinates exhibits, educational give-a-ways, and literature. Manages two annual professional development classes for area K-12 teachers.
Provides support for additional public education program activities. Includes administrative duties to manage public space usage for the Northern Treatment Plant Administration Building.
Assists the PIO with production of brochures, newsletters, and similar materials – includes writing, editing, and subject-matter expert coordination to develop content.
Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, communications, public relations, or directly related field. Two years of professional experience working with the media and general knowledge of media operations. Maintains a current Colorado driver license. Experience with publication editing, including composition, art, and layout related to printing and reproduction of materials. Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Equivalency
Equivalency equals two years of directly related professional experience for every year of education not completed. The stated experience requirement is in addition to any experience used to meet the education equivalency

Desired Qualifications
Familiarity with Denver area communications and media contacts. Experience with education programs and conducting tours. Knowledge of wastewater treatment practices and municipal government operations. Advanced experience with Microsoft applications, social media platforms, and SharePoint.
