This position is primarily in the wastewater treatment work group and performs a variety of technical duties related to the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities. Employees are also expected to support workforce flexibility by cross-training in water treatment operations, instrumentation, automation and/or maintenance.

Principle Duties: For Tech: Research, inspect and troubleshoot treatment problems, processes, components and equipment. Assist with, or lead, process cleaning, maintenance, and other special projects. Work with vendors and contractors to plan, document, and implement requested services. Monitor plant functions using gauges, graphs, meters, control panels and computerized monitoring systems. Collect samples from various treatment processes and perform process control tests. Acknowledge and respond to alarms and provide appropriate response to problems and hazards. Calculate operating performance and load capacities, chemical dosages, flow rates, and related operations parameters. Adjust pumps, flows, valves, and chemical feed systems. Document operations and maintenance activities. Monitor systems, levels, pressures and flows. Help implement preventative maintenance programs including completing work orders and updates to the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Operate and inspect vehicles, small equipment, boat, and powered tools. Assist contractors and other staff as needed. Assist with planning for projects. Analyze, update, and develop procedures, instructions and checklists. Develop and deploy skills with higher level maintenance and process control tools and instruments.

For Lead: In addition to performing the Tech duties, Leads must be able to research and troubleshoot technical, water quality and equipment problems using appropriate materials and methods. Assist with identifying appropriate monitoring plans and assist with process testing and control. Ensure the safety of all crew members and regulatory compliance with pertinent safety standards. Ensure compliance with traffic laws, policies, ordinances, and rules while performing and overseeing tasks. Respond to service calls, including emergency "on-call" shifts, with an ability to respond to a site within the established timeframe. Respond to inquiries from customers, contractors, and staff and act as liaison between projects and operations as needed. Assist contractors and other staff with improvements and additions to the facility control systems. Assist supervisors with identifying and addressing work priorities and support utility planning functions as needed.

Four (4) 10 hour shifts rotating days and weekends

Qualifications:
For Tech: Education and experience as required by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to obtain operator certifications. (Please refer to CDPHE 5 CCR 1003-2 for current requirements.) Applicants must be able to obtain CDPHE operator certifications as specified below (special qualification). Preference will be given to applicants with hands-on experience with industrial operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, machinery maintenance, laboratory equipment calibration, sample analyses, and/or other job experience related to water/wastewater operations. Consideration will be given to applicants who have demonstrated analytical skills, engaged in progressive career-oriented learning, and/or a demonstrated ability to be trained to perform complex job functions. Special Qualification: Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License. Possession of a Colorado Class D, C, or B Operators Certificate or the ability to obtain within two testing cycles from the date of hire. The certificate must be for Wastewater Operations due to being assigned to the City's wastewater treatment plant. Progressive Certification up to the "A" level must be demonstrated within four years of hire by employees assigned to operations as their area of emphasis. This time period may be extended as needed to address testing cycles and other legitimate factors determined by the supervisor.

For Lead: In addition to meeting the qualifications for the tech level, applicants should have four or more years of experience with industrial operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, machinery maintenance, laboratory equipment calibration, sample analyses, and/or other job experience related to water/wastewater operations. An Associate's degree in distribution, collection, water or wastewater operations, environmental sciences, or related technical studies is preferred. Consideration will be given to applicants who have 4 or more years of work experience including demonstrated analytical skills, engaged in progressive career-oriented learning, and/or a demonstrated ability to be trained to perform complex job functions. Special Qualifications: Possession of a Colorado Class A Operator's Certificate or the ability to obtain within two testing cycles from the date of hire. The certificate must be for Wastewater Operations due to being assigned to the City's wastewater treatment plants.

Comments:
Working Environment: Work is performed outside and inside, under varying and extreme weather conditions; job includes working rotating shifts and working weekends and holidays. Work includes exposure to noise, dust, gases and oils, solvents and chemicals. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body is needed. Position requires the ability to work under time constraints and in confined spaces and the use of respirators. The candidate for this position must be able to meet the physical requirements necessary to do the job.
