Details:
The Lab Analyst II is a non-exempt position that reports to the WWTP Lab Supervisor. The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing a variety of wastewater and environmental analysis.


1.Conducts chemical, physical and bacteriological analyses on water, wastewater, biosolids, industrial waste samples and other sources as necessary
2.Prepares laboratory equipment, instruments, and reagents required for the analysis
3.Tests samples and quality control standards, and then calculates results
4.Cleans equipment and work area after use
5.Records test data and prepares reports


Qualifications:


The Lab Analyst II shall possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:


1.Knowledge skill and ability to successfully perform the essential duties of the Lab Analyst classification
2.Detailed knowledge of analytical procedures for chemical, physical and bacteriological analyses on water, wastewater, biosolids and industrial wastes
3.Ability to perform analytical procedures for chemical, physical and bacteriological analyses on water, wastewater, biosolids and industrial wastes with acceptable accuracy and precision
4.Ability to perform calculations such as computing geometric means, performing statistical quality control calculations for precision and accuracy, using molecular weights and formula weights to calculate chemical concentrations and normality, calculating logarithmic and linear regression curves, and calculating dilutions or serial dilutions
5.Ability to analyze results obtained from analytical tests for compliance with quality control standards
6.Ability to use computers, standard spreadsheet and word processing software, and the Laboratory Information and Management System (LIMS) effectively
7.Working knowledge of City laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation
8.Ability to review all quality assurance activities to verify conformance with established quality assurance program and laboratory standard operating procedures
9.Ability to research and solve problems with methodology, instrumentation and techniques
10.Ability to advise the Lab Supervisor of problems and recommend corrective actions in a timely manner
11.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and other agencies
12.Ability to assist and train others
13.Ability to work unsupervised
14.Ability to write reports and assemble data

Minimum Qualifications

The Lab Analyst II shall possess the following minimum qualifications in addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above:
1.Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in chemistry, biology, environmental studies, or a related field
2.At least one (1) year of paid experience in laboratory testing in a field related to water or wastewater analysis
3.A valid driver's license at time of application and must possess a valid Class "C" or Class "R" Colorado driver's license by the date of appointment
