Description:
The Donala Water and Sanitation District is seeking to fill the position of Water Quality
Specialist. The Water Quality Specialist performs analysis of physical, chemical and bacteriological constituents present in a treated and untreated domestic water supply at a water/waste water treatment laboratory; maintains detailed records of analytical activities both manually and electronically; diagnosis, troubleshoots, and coordinates maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate and perform chemical, physical and bacteriological analysis of water and wastewater on schedule using Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and CDPHE Standards.

Method methodology to determine regulatory compliance. Interpret and evaluate analytical results; determine reasons for problems and recommend corrective measures; report findings as required.

Research and test new lab techniques and procedures and recommend changes in operating processes; prepare Standard Operating Procedures as required.

Assist in the development and implementation of the laboratory’s Quality Assurance and Quality Control standards.

Prepare analytical and quality control reports as required.

Conduct performance testing on samples as required for maintaining the laboratory’s certification.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and coordinate maintenance and repair of a variety of complex instruments and equipment.

Assist with the training of less experienced staff in developed methodology, instrumental analysis and related work procedures.

Assist Operation with troubleshooting of issues; special testing and methods/procedure development as required.

Maintain inventory and order supplies; research and recommend new equipment as required.

Provide exceptional customer service to those contacted in the course of work.




Stay up to date on current and upcoming water/wastewater regulations related to CDPHE and EPA regulations.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements: property safety attire will be required. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
- Must be able to site, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision enough to service equipment, have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend, and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 40 pounds from floor level to waist height, push a push type mower; wear and use appropriate safety equipment.

Compensation and Benefits
-$32-$36/hour, DOQ. Health benefits, including health, vision, dental, fully paid for employee and family. 457 retirement plan, clothing allowance, paid holidays, sick time and vacation.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
-Possess a valid driver’s license with no major infractions
-Hold a current or within 12 months of hire a Colorado Water or Wastewater Certification or both
-Three plus years of experience in a water/wastewater treatment facility. Preferably working in the laboratory of said facilities.

Preferred Qualifications
-Related chemistry, math, biology and personnel management preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.

Job Competencies
-Knowledge of personal computers, pumps, motors, laboratory equipment, chemical equipment, safety equipment and standard operating practices, and hazardous material handling.
