LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a candidate to work as a Crime Analyst embedded with the Metro Transit Police Department in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Metro Transit Police Department is committed to the personal safety, quality of life, and protection of property for everyone in their transit community. They are a full-service 24-hour licensed police department that responds to, and investigates, all crimes occurring on Metro Transit property, including buses, light rail, commuter trains, facilities and rights-of-way throughout eight counties and 85 cities.

The analyst should be highly skilled at using statistics to analyze crime patterns and trends. The analyst is expected to develop and prepare analysis reports utilizing numerous types of software to create charts, graphs, maps, and other analytical reports that will help relate data in order to track and present findings associated with criminal activity. The ideal candidate will have experience producing a variety of mapping (GIS) products showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, to include crime, crash, and calls for service, as well as creating “hotspot” maps. In addition, the analyst should have experience in extracting data from relational data bases (ie. SQL Server; MySQL).

Duties may also include developing profiles of victims and suspects, coordinating and preparing crime analysis reports for series, trends, patterns, and monitoring individual offenders across jurisdictional lines. The analyst will use work products, experience and knowledge of police procedures to assist command districts, divisions and units with their public safety mission. The analyst will collect and organize criminal information from all available resources, including the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system, the National Incident-Based System (NIBRS), field interview reports, intelligence sources, crime bulletins, and reviews of crime reports and supplements, in order to study and analyze past and existing crime series, patterns and trends.
The analyst will coordinate and conduct regular meetings and presentations on their findings and provide exceptional customer support to all with whom they interact. The candidate must complete a background check performed by the Metro Transit Police Department. Management preference is a strong background in crime analysis and experience using LexisNexis Public Safety Products and Platforms.

Responsibilities:

Aides in guiding customer agency on how LexisNexis public safety products should be used to combat crime and disorder problems in the city
Performs a variety of strategic, tactical, and administrative duties relating to the systematic process of collecting, categorizing, analyzing, and disseminating timely, accurate, and useful information that describes crime patterns, crime trends, and potential suspects
Prepares a variety of reports such as crime information and patrol bulletins, monthly and quarterly activity summaries, department annual reports and specific statistical/research reports as needed
Works to enhance understanding of product knowledge and customer requirements. Ensures analytical services align with the strategic goals of customer agency and identifies any gaps.
Acts as a liaison between customer agency and LexisNexis. Presents and discusses innovative ideas on product improvements and enhancements to manager for incorporation into new and existing products

BA or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 1 year experience as a Crime/Data Analyst
Demonstrated competence in application of logic to problems and in research and problem resolution
Strong organizational, prioritizing and time management skills
Good oral and written communications skills
Proofreading skills to see how data and facts can be linked together to create more meaningful conclusions.
