Overview
South Platte Renew is a 50 MGD Water Resource Recovery Facility, jointly owned by the cities of Littleton and Englewood. We are a regional leader in wastewater treatment and biogas recovery. Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Maintains and promotes good relationships with the public and other employees; exhibits a high degree of emotional intelligence, professionalism, initiative, & tact.
Monitors and makes recommendations related to wastewater treatment processes; manually or through the use of a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) computer system, including tank levels, chemical feed rates and concentrations, water quality parameters, air and water flow, pumps, blowers, & valve configurations. Makes changes as needed under the guidance of the Written Operating Plan & plant ORC. Communicates and logs changes.
Collects and interprets routine data as needed, communicates anomalies to the senior operators or Operations Supervisors. Recommends cleaning, verification, or calibration of equipment and water quality sensors.
Identifies needed repairs and communicates to Operations Supervisors as necessary to keep equipment running and the treatment processes functioning. Makes repairs as directed, following established SOP's.
Identifies the need for basic troubleshooting of plant equipment and treatment processes and reports process and equipment status and any emergency and major malfunctions to Operations Supervisor. Working with plant staff, Operations Supervisors, &/or ORC, assists in troubleshooting following established SOP's.
Maintains supplies and equipment used in sampling. Suggests purchases to Operations Supervisor to maintain inventory.
Performs and interprets various field tests on samples using field test kits to monitor biological and chemical concentrations, such as TSS, DO, pH, Temperature, Alkalinity.
Performs and oversees cleanup and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, and buildings using standard cleaning equipment and materials and cleaning procedures. Shows initiative on plant cleanliness.
Participates in safety, equipment, and process training to learn about safe chemical handling, safe equipment operation, process and equipment troubleshooting and to improve wastewater certification.
Reports or corrects unsafe or unhealthful workplace conditions or hazards, understands and complies with applicable safety, security and emergency response policies and procedures, and models safe conduct.

Other Duties & Responsibilities
Occasionally may operate heavy equipment on facility site including: 10-yard dump truck, front-end loader, forklift, and semi-tractor trailer.
Maintain certification license through continuing education training units (TU's)
Assists in snow removal when needed.
Attends trainings as required by the City of Englewood.
Assists with special projects or committees, and performs other duties as assigned.
Calibrates equipment, as needed using testing devices. Restarts equipment following standard operating procedure. Performs special on-site chemical and biological processes.
Performs special laboratory analysis to investigate or test treatment process concentrations. Receives and stores chemicals.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions. Recommends rotation, repair, and use of equipment in the treatment process.
Attends training on process control, chemical, safety, equipment operation to retain certification.
Stays informed of all applicable NPDES plant permit limits for effluent discharge.
May respond to odor reports. Investigates odor reports to identify odor source, recommends solutions, and completes written report investigations.
May assist with general training of current and new employees.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Education: High school diploma or GED. Completion of a mechanical trade program, or a two- or four-year degree in water quality, life sciences, or engineering is preferred.

Work Experience: Two years of on-site operating experience in a secondary Industrial/ Domestic Wastewater treatment plant preferred. 10-yard dump truck, front-end loader, or forklift experience preferred. Must be detail-oriented in recording data and making observations.

Certifications and/or Licensures: Colorado Wastewater Plant Operator D Certificate or ability to obtain within first 6 months of employment. Colorado Wastewater Plant Operator D, C, B, or A certification desired

Required Driver's License: Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR

An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

Skills and Abilities

Computer Skills - Basic computer skills required to work in high technology, automated industrial environment. Must be able to operate plant equipment and application software and the use of hand-held electronic devices for data collection.

Communication Skills - Basic communication skills required to interact with co-workers, vendors, suppliers, government officials, and the public to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction. Also required to provide written reports.

Analytical Skills - Basic analytical skills required to compile, analyze, and interpret numerous facts and details drawn from various sources to solve problems and devise minor repairs. Also required to research and access information from various sources.

Mechanical Skills - Basic mechanical skills required to understand, operate and monitor industrial equipment. Also required to use basic hand and power tools and to perform minor maintenance procedures.

Mathematical Skills - Basic mathematical skills required to perform accurate calculations.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in an indoor/outdoor industrial environment. Works near moving mechanical parts; exposed to fumes, pathogens, airborne particles and various chemicals, some of which may be toxic. The employee is exposed to various conditions including noisy, hot and cold conditions.
