Meter Services Technician – Full Time SEASONAL

The Customer Service Department at Eagle River Water Sanitation District is responsible for delivering quality service in the areas of utility billing and customer support. We are currently looking for a Seasonal Full Time Meter Technician to join our team.

This position will be responsible for the accurate reading and recording of residential and commercial water, and fire hydrant meters. This position is also responsible for the installation, repair and assembly of meters, inspection of water lines, PRV's, fire hydrants, radio transmission equipment and valves.

This is a 1000 hour role and will work seasonally during the Summer of 2017. This position will work 4 ten hour shifts a week, starting at 7:00am and ending at 5:30pm.

The Day to Day:

CUSTOMER INQUIRIES: Creates positive interactions with customers regarding meter readings, construction, delinquent accounts, and other problems. Answers customer questions and provides follow-up to inquiries and correspondences regarding customer backflow-devices.
METERS: Seeks effective ways and technologies to reduce read times and increase use of AMI. Acts as liaison between Distribution & Collection and Customer Service Departments for all matters regarding meter maintenance and backflow. Reads, inspects, tests and repairs meters. Performs reading, repair, testing, and inspection of new construction and existing customer installations for meters, fire hydrant meters, and inspects back flow devices for problems and water loss. Inspects for tampering, illegal taps or illegal meter hookups. Assists and performs high use audits. When required, disconnects and reconnects water.
TECHNICAL: Manage Back Flow information in the CIS system. Installs, inspects, GIS, and sketches service connections.
MAINTENANCE AND EQUIPMENT: Inventories all meters and other equipment. Executes work orders for completed meter maintenance, backflow, change-outs and repairs.
TEAMWORK: Supports and assists as needed the Customer Service Specialists. Provides training to other employees as needed, including temporary and part-time positions. Makes recommendations to supervisor regarding costs for budgeting, job procedures and policies
SAFETY: Required to follow all District safety and security policies and wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by the job duties.

Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for this role possesses the Backflow/Cross-Connection Administrator certification, has experience leading others and the ability to delegate and schedule for maximum efficiency in all customer interactions. A good candidate for this role is committed to continued learning, has strong computer skills and has shown themselves to be a leader by setting positive examples in all interactions.

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Three to five years in distribution and collection operations or equivalent.
Must possess a Colorado Water Distribution Technician I and Sewage Collection Technician I Certification or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Proven communication (both verbal and written) & customer service skills and the ability to work productively with minimal direct supervision.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Windows XP: MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Strong experience in Cloud Based Technology and software management and integration preferred.
Experience with CMMS and Billing software preferred.
Excellent time management and organizational skills; ability to manage a large variety of tasks and deadlines in a positive and productive manner.
Must be willing to work occasional on-call shifts.
Must be able to work during the billing cycle meter reading.
Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's license within 30 days of full time employment and be insurable under District's standards.
Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
