Denver Water’s Engineering Division/ Construction Management Section is currently seeking a qualified candidate to assist us as Materials Technician. Under general supervision, perform standardized quality assurance materials testing. Make engineering judgments with regard to test means, methods and results. Deal with contractors regarding materials science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conduct a variety of field and laboratory tests as part of the quality assurance in support of construction management. Specialty testing includes field and laboratory concrete tests, field and laboratory soils testing, and field testing of in-place asphalt.
• Operate a variety of instruments and test equipment including nuclear density gauges, concrete testing equipment, and soil testing equipment, concrete specimen curing equipment, Atterberg Limit testing apparatuses, proctor curve apparatuses, personal computers, meters and recorders.
• Research various testing standards such as ASTM and ACI standards. Follow standards prescribed for various test methods.
• Clean and maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and cost estimates, maintaining various records, files, and indexes. Use computer software to evaluate test data.
• Review and interpret specifications, drawings, and evaluates construction materials.
• Ability to utilize technical judgment regarding testing requirements to make field recommendations.
• Analyze and interpret data from testing insofar as taking raw test data and running calculations to determine if in-place materials are meeting the requirements of the Contract Documents.
• Perform related work as required.



Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
• Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of related work experience.
• Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.

Licenses, Registration and Certifications:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
• ACI Field Technician I required within 6 months of hire.
• ACI Laboratory Technician I required within 6 months of hire.
• Certification in radiation safety and use of nuclear density gauges required within 4 months of hire.
• May require HIPAA Training.
