Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Collection and Distribution Supervisor/Manager, assists in the operation and maintenance of the sewer collection & water distribution systems.

The work involves the operation of equipment including backhoe, loader, dump truck, directional boar machine, Vac-Jet, CCTV, shovel and hand tools in the performance of maintenance, repair, and installation and testing of water and wastewater infrastructure.

Essential Job Functions:

Perform all duties in safe manor and in accordance with standard operating procedures.

Insure duties are conducted within State and Local rules and regulations.

Installation and maintenance of water mains, services, valves, hydrants meters and related apparatus.

Installation and maintenance of wastewater mains, services, manholes and related apparatus.

Meter reading including the operation of computer programs, writing, reading and interpreting reports.

Locating water and wastewater piping and other apparatus to insure safe excavation.

The safe and proficient operation of equipment to perform job duties.

Is required to participate in on-call duties on a rotation basis with others in the department.

Other Duties:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Special Requirements:

Must provide own safety footwear.

Physical Demands:

Frequently requires heavy lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, climbing and walking over rough or uneven terrain.

Unusual Demands:

Worker is required to provide assistance during emergencies; may be required to work unusual hours, weekends, and holidays; subject to reoccurring deadlines; subject to work hazards and unpleasant conditions; occasional exposure to inclement weather.

Pre-employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of collection and distribution operations, principals, and practices.

Ability to communicate with the public, to speak and write clearly; to maintain effective working relationships with others; to operate equipment in a safe manner.

Skill in using tools, materials and equipment of the trade.

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.)

Training and/or Education:

High school diploma or G.E.D., supplemented with related courses.

Experience:

Three years related experience.

Licenses or Certificates:

Must have and maintain a valid Colorado class “CDL A” with tanker endorsement drivers license.

Must obtain and maintain a State Certification for class “3” Collection and class “3” Distribution. The Technician will be expected to advance in certifications throughout employment.
