Are you an experienced wastewater professional ready to take on a leadership role? The Borough of Oakmont is creating a succession plan as the existing 30-year veteran WWTP Superintendent plans to retire before the end of 2025. The new Superintendent will learn side-by-side with our outgoing leader and grasp the reins on their own as Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Superintendent by mid-year to oversee the operation and maintenance of our treatment plant and three pump stations. The system is managed by the Superintendent and currently 3 full-time, well-experienced and seasoned employees.
Also, in 2025 the WWTP will commence with a 36-month, $16 million upgrade to its treatment system. 2 years of planning for this capital project places Oakmont Borough in a position that the existing leader is ready to step aside from the day-to-day operations and focus on two important things; the construction project and a well-earned semi-retirement. The successful candidate will have time to learn about the existing WWTP operations and at the same time, incorporate the upgrades into the existing facility.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
Oversee daily operations, maintenance, and staff at the WWTP and three pump stations.
Manage the Borough’s Pretreatment Program and collaborate with industrial customers.
Evaluate and prioritize short-term and long-term capital expenditures.
Assist in budget planning and financial oversight for plant operations.
Respond to and resolve citizen concerns professionally and efficiently.


Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred).
Valid Class A or E Wastewater Pennsylvania Certification, Subclass 1,2,3,4.

Experience & Skills:
10 years of progressive wastewater experience, with 5 years in a supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of EPA Pretreatment Regulations, SCADA systems, and computer applications (Word, Excel, databases).
Ability to analyze technical information, write reports, and manage budgets.
Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:
Ability to climb up and down a 40-foot ladder in pump stations.
Work outdoors in inclement weather and hazardous conditions.
Exposure to wastewater, mechanical, electrical, and confined space hazards.
Moderate to high noise levels.
