Details:
Maintains Police Department records regarding crimes and arrests within the City, conducts a
variety of crime and statistical analysis; does related work as required.
This is difficult administrative, clerical, and technical work involving the management of the
record-keeping activities of the City’s Police Department. The work is performed under the
general direction and supervision of the Police Lieutenant, but considerable leeway is granted
for the exercise of independent judgment. The nature of the work requires an employee in this
class to work directly and closely with Police Officers, supervisory police personnel and the
general public on a regular and recurring basis. Because an employee in this class is located in
an environment associated with law enforcement, public safety, frequent public contact, and
high volume production, the work may be performed under considerable stress.

Qualifications:
Graduation with a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in
criminology, law enforcement or closely related field with two years as a crime
intelligence analyst, criminal investigator or closely related field, OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college university with five (5) years of
professional experience as a crime intelligence analyst, criminal investigator, or a closely
related field, OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge,
skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications
NCIC certification in the state of Iowa within three months of employment
Working knowledge in geographical information systems (GIS), mapping applications,
computer aided dispatch (CAD), record management systems (RMS) and law enforcement
exposure preferred
