POSITION: Utilities Programs Coordinator SALARY: $53,000 - $72,610 DOQ
DEPARTMENT: Utilities CLOSES: June 16, 2017 5:00 p.m.
Definition:
The purpose of the positon is to promote, support, implement, and encourage Utility best practices within the City as the provider of water, wastewater and storm drainage services. The position communicates and coordinates on behalf of the Utility with customers and specific relevant agencies, disseminating required, relevant and pertinent information, either directly or through the PIO office. Responsible for the Utilities Public Relations Information, Community Outreach events, Water Conservation Program, Cross-Connection Control and Backflow Prevention Program, Emergency Response coordination and planning, and Health & Safety tracking and training. This position must work well independently and with the public, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills which support of the City of Brighton’s mission and values.
Example of Duties:
Serves as a liaison to the City of Brighton’s Public Information team, assisting in developing strategies and communication plans for Utilities on behalf of the city. Understands the mission and services provided by Utilities in order to actively promote them to the community. Researches and writes Utilities content for City-wide newsletters and publications. Prepares the annual Water Quality Report to citizens. Coordinates through Water Resources staff the compilation of the annual Water Efficiency Report. Develops educational information for customers, developers, and city. Communicates with customers regarding water conservation, tracks water conservation programs to encourage wise water use. Coordinates and leads community outreach events to maintain a positive relationship with customers. Updates and maintains backflow prevention database to track devices maintained by commercial/industrial and government accounts within the City to maintain compliance. Performs mass mailings to remind customers of required annual backflow device testing and follow-up mailing to assure compliance. Updates and maintains database to track health and safety training of staff and coordinates training classes as necessary to assure proper training is available. Assists in drafting press releases. Assists with the development and implementation of overall Utilities communication plans. Updates content for internal and external Web sites, including expanding and managing the general content and improving the appearance and usability of the site. Strives for effective information sharing between Utilities and other city departments and citizens. Assists in maintenance of social media sites and look for new opportunities to engage residents. Keeps current with industry trends and emerging technologies. Attends city events as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Advanced written and verbal language and communication principles. Principles and practices of journalism, marketing, and public relations. Water, wastewater, and storm drainage Utilities standard practices. Spelling, grammar, and proofreading. Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to: Make effective presentations to small and large groups. Present ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to diverse audiences. Understand and exercise discretion with highly sensitive and confidential material and information. Think strategically and follow strategic direction. Research and apply new knowledge and ideas to current issues. Handle multiple projects accurately and in a timely manner. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Communicate effectively on status of projects.
Education and Training: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Four (4) years of related experience preferred.
Special Requirements: Possession of valid Colorado driver’s license with safe driving record. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
