The Borough of Topton, Berks County, PA is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Works Laborer/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, maintaining borough parks and other property; assisting in maintenance, repair, and construction of roads in the Borough; performing various maintenance and construction tasks; collecting leaves and branches seasonally; park maintenance, road work, and road maintenance, including mowing, planting, trimming, pruning, and snow plowing. This position requires the knowledge of basic computer skills required for data entry, report filing, record keeping, and SCADA monitoring. Successful applicant must work “on call” and must work two hours at wastewater treatment plant every other Saturday and Sunday.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position, may include long varied hours, and is required to work in all types of weather conditions. Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications:
Must have a history of safe work habits and the ability to interact with the public in a courteous manner. Must have experience working as part of a team. Experience in parks and road maintenance and the ability to operate specialized heavy equipment preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. PA CDL Class B preferred but not required. Two-year college degree or technical training preferred but not required. Knowledge and experience with wastewater collection, processing, and testing systems preferred. Pennsylvania DEP Certificate for Wastewater must be obtained within two years of employment. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
