GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs skilled mechanical work and some electrical work in the maintenance and repair of plant machinery and equipment used in water, sewer, and/or wastewater treatment and pumping facilities; uses various types of equipment to detect problems; does related work as required. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is a skilled position with primary responsibility for the maintenance and repair of plant and related machinery and equipment. Work assignments and supervision are received from a supervisor, but in executing assignments the employee exercises responsibility and independent judgement to accomplish work assignments without detailed supervision; must be able to read blue prints. EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only) Performs preventive maintenance on all plant, flow and related machinery and equipment; Does repair work on plant, flow and related machinery and equipment; Checks operating conditions of pumping stations; Checks reservoirs and makes necessary repairs; Inspects and maintains valve chambers and pipes; Keeps maintenance records on all plant and flow machinery and equipment; Reads and studies plant operating and maintenance manuals including drawings.

Qualifications:
REOUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Some knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades; some knowledge of greases, oils and other lubricants used for proper machine operations; operates television inspection equipment. Some knowledge of occupational hazards connected with maintenance work; ability to study and understand operating and maintenance manuals, and read blueprints; mechanical ability; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with operators and other co-workers; skill in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machinery and equipment of the electrical and mechanical trades; good judgement. Minimum 3 years shoring experience and ability to operate and calibrate explosive meters; must be in possession of a Commercial Drivers License.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Some experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance, and completion of a standard high school course supplemented by successful completion of courses in electrical and mechanical maintenance; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills and abilities.

ADDITIONAL REOUIREMENTS: (Wastewater Treatment Only) Willingness and ability to complete the necessary studies to qualify for lowest level certificate prescribed for the treatment plant by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
