Position Summary
An Engineer II works on projects that require solid judgment, independent evaluation and application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Candidates will apply their prior experience and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in applicable areas of civil and/or environmental engineering. The following abilities are essential:
Apply methods to resolve important questions.
Make decisions on engineering problems.
Plan your own work and coordinate with team members.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & General
- Provide advice and creatively resolve emerging problems/deficiencies.
- Monitor progress and compile reports on project status.
- Represent company with clients, regulators, bidders and contractors.
Technical Writing
- Apply civil engineering principles to write technical and feasibility studies and reports, specifications, permit and funding applications, letters, meeting agenda & minutes.
- Prepare complex permitting and funding application packages including all supporting documentation and submit to applicable regulatory and funding agencies.
Studies & Designs
- Complete studies and designs appropriate to project scope and constraints while applying sound engineering judgment and accuracy.
- Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings, etc.).
- Design, develop, create, and maintain small- to large-scale projects ranging from conventional to innovative.
- Develop constructible system layouts based on project requirements.
- Produce accurate, efficient, and innovative drawings following company standards while minimizing redline/revision iterations.
Engineering Computations & Software
- Utilize engineering design, modeling and other advanced software to accurately and efficiently complete engineering computations and develop construction and project cost opinions.
Bidding
- Support bidding. Resolve and respond to bidders’ inquiries. Prepare Addenda. Attend Bid Openings & prepare Bid Tabulations. Review Contractor’s bid packages. Recommend contract award.
Construction Phase Engineering
- Review and approve or reject shop drawings. Review and respond to requests for information, change order requests, and contractor payment applications.
- Inspect construction. Provide field engineering.
- Participate in project meetings, prepare agenda and minutes.
- Prepare full funding payment requests including all supporting documentation and submit to applicable funding agencies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Environmental Engineering
- Engineering-In-Training Certificate
- 2-4 years of civil or environmental design and consulting engineering experience
- Experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or Revit, BioWin, hydraulic modeling, bridge design and load rating software and/or surveying preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong technical skills in engineering analysis and design combined with a proven background of performance on civil or environmental engineering projects.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint , Outlook, Teams).
- Ability to work in a team environment or independently on specific project tasks and take direction from more experienced engineers.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Good organization and time management skills.
