Spirit Canoe Lodge is a non-profit organization providing connections with nature via ceremonial experiences and affordable lodging to travelers.  We depend on dedicated volunteers and interns to make things happen. The lodge operates much like a hostel and we have a room available in the house for an intern. We are on 71 acres of forested land with food and medicinal plants growing.  We are actively growing and repopulating Appalachian natives on the land that you can learn about during your work stay.

We ask for 15-20 hours work trade + food stipend 100/week + lodging.  We are located in a scenic part of the Blue Ridge Mountains 20 minutes from West Jefferson and 50 from Boone.  Work includes:  AirBnB turnovers, general house keeping, work in the food and medicinal gardens and maintenance on the land and lodge.  There is also opportunity to participate in our events during your stay at N/C.  There are also many wonderful hiking opportunities to explore.



Qualifications:
Self starter who is responsible, courteous, and desires to steward and live closer to nature.  There are social interactions with guests and other community members.  Knowledge of simple garden practices, trail building, and permaculture are a plus!  The desire to learn more about native plants and our forest farming work in relation to growing and making herbal products is also great!
