Details:
Maintain assigned equipment for the City, e.g., police, fire, parks, or public works. Perform a full range of automotive, large and small equipment, and other mechanical work as assigned. Perform tune-ups, electrical repairs, major overhauls, welding, as well as routine service and repair duties.

Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures. Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus. Knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines; hydraulic systems, transmissions and differentials; electrical motors and vehicles. Knowledge of other general repair techniques; tools, equipment and safe and productive procedures used in the overhaul, repair, preventive maintenance, welding, adjustment of gas and diesel-powered engines and equipment.
SKILL: Use of a wide variety of equipment repair and diagnostic tools; various types of mechanical repair.
ABILITY: Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and complete skilled repair work; prepare estimates of time and materials needed; follow written and oral instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.

EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an automotive training school and/or ASE certifications desirable.
EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in maintenance/repair of a variety of automotive equipment.
Experience must include: engine tune-up, rebuilding engines, maintaining/repairing vehicles, trucks, heavy equipment, small motors, tractors, and mowers, rebuilding wheel and master cylinders, replacing shocks, valves, and exhaust systems, electrical & charging systems, maintenance/repair of brake systems, and cooling systems, etc., or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the position. Promotion to Senior Fleet Mechanic requires possessing a minimum of six (6) ASE certifications.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Colorado Class A Commercial Driver’s license with a good driving record or the ability to obtain one within 2 months of appointment is required.
