The purpose of this position is to supervise the Crime Intelligence Section while compiling reports and conducting routine analysis of intelligence data regarding criminal activity in the City and surrounding areas in order to help identify trends and patterns in support of law enforcement officials.

Essential Job Duties

Oversees the retrieval and analysis of various crimes, calls for service, arrests and other data generated throughout the Police Department
Responsible for planning, developing, administering, implementing, and promoting a wide variety of activities related to the implementation and on-going activities of the Crime Intelligence Unit.
Develops and fosters relationships with local community groups and businesses in accordance with department objectives.
Collects crime reports data, arrest data, field interview card data, intelligence reports and other crime related data to forecast crime patterns; conducts routine analysis of crime patterns, series, and trends using chronological, and geographic measures and statistical methods

Collects, collates, analyzes, and presents detailed crime statistical reports; generates reports of crime trends and patterns.

Inputs, accesses, and queries data in various City computer systems, including Geographic Information Systems, Computer Aided Dispatch, Police Record Systems, Georgia and National Crime Information Center files, and other systems.

Provides information to, and acts as liaison for crime analysis data with other criminal justice personnel within the department and other police agencies regarding mutual or similar crimes.

Researches, compiles, and reports information in support of traffic control and criminal investigations; compiles routine background and history information to assist investigators (e.g. telephone and financial records, historical and biographical data, etc.).

Responsible for training and mentoring junior staff members, and reviewing, assigning, and ensuring the completion of information requests.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements of Position:

Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, mathematics/statistics, research and information systems, or other fields emphasizing analytical thinking and logic required, Master’s degree preferred; two years’ experience in data compilation and reporting, preferably in a law enforcement environment, and familiarity with geographical information systems; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
