Performs a variety of semi-skilled manual labor to support the maintenance and construction of City streets, water distribution and waste water collection lines, properties, facilities and other sites under City obligation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive:
• Patch and repair holes in streets; spread and tamp gravel; spread and smooth asphalt; operate small roller on asphalt patches; sand, salt and remove snow from streets.
• Perform snow removal duties at all times of the day and night, must have a CDL in order to perform these duties.
• Paint roadway markings and parking lots, make and install street signs, stormwater maintenance cleaning and documentation, hang banners and flags, operate bucket trucks, clean right-of-way and emergency cleaning of any drainage way, jet/vac sewer lines and maintenance of utilities infrastructure.
• Camera sewer lines, read meters, check pressure reducing valves weekly within confined spaces, Check lift stations as needed. Check for water main leak detections.
• Support other City departments in building maintenance and assigned tasks.
• Operate simple pneumatic tools, air hammer, and pavement breaker; drive light, medium and heavy duty trucks and/or load and unload them, as required.
• Clear brush from rights-of-way and ditches; mow; dig, set manhole covers.
• Assist in a variety of construction tasks; may occasionally perform simple crafts or construction tasks such as light carpentry or fence installation.
• Dig and shore trenches, dig, replace, fit or repair water distribution or sewer collection pipes; repair manholes; break out concrete; perform service line checks for leaks, obstructions and frozen lines; may make water taps, assist in installing water meters and/or helping to repair or install or flush fire hydrants.
• May operate more complex equipment in conjunction with training for possible promotion.
• Respond to emergency calls nights and weekends as required. Be available and willing to perform on-call duty on a rotating basis.
• Perform related work as required and assigned.


Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE: Some knowledge of basic mechanics, carpentry, plumbing and other repair techniques; of common tools used in construction and maintenance work; basic knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
SKILL: Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools and light to medium equipment.
ABILITY: Ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled construction and repair tasks; willingness to perform tasks outdoors in a variety of climate conditions; perform physical tasks required of assignments; understand and carry out oral and written assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, other employees and the public. Ability to respond to emergencies 24/7. Ability to effectively remove snow; operate a large snow plow truck.

EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING: High School diploma or equivalent; CDL training.
EXPERIENCE: No specific requirement, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's license (or the ability to obtain one within two months after appointment); a safe driving record and the ability to pass a drug screening.
