We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Manager or Resident Engineer (water/wastewater/water resources) with experience in construction oversight and coordination to join our growing team in the DC Metro Area. Primary responsibilities may include:
Provide onsite Resident Engineering support for water, wastewater and water resources projects
Collaborate with a local project delivery team and national team of technical experts
Collaborate with a Design Project Manager to address design issues; coordinate with Contractor’s project manager; obtain daily updates on project issues and status from Construction Inspectors; report issues to Client.
Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion
Be proactive in predicting, identifying, and solving project problems.
Generate project correspondence, including responses to Contractor correspondence in a timely manner to avoid delay, to convey the Owner’s position, and to protect the Owner’s interests.
Work closely with the project Construction Inspectors to ensure the quality of construction.
Review and analyze Contractors’ Critical Path Method (CPM) schedules to ensure compliance with approved Contract schedule; address deficiencies.
Manage the construction budget, including managing pay applications and change orders, and maintaining current records related to the base work, contingency and Field
Review the project in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs
Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations
Coordinate in the field with clients/owners, consultants, contractors, designers and regulatory agencies
Meet contractual conditions of performance
Review the work progress daily
Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status
Plan ahead to prevent problems and resolve any emerging ones
Produce effective and accurate written documents, reports, and technical memorandums
Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks
Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques

Qualifications:
Desired Skills and Experience:

BS degree, Master’s degree preferable, in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Candidates without an engineering degree but possessing significant construction management experience will be considered as well.
Proven working experience in construction management and resident engineering
Working knowledge of construction practices
Minimum 10 years related experience at least 4 years of which include construction oversight, construction inspection, and plant start-up experience
PE and/or CCM preferable but not required
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Ability to provide designconsultation in specialized areas, make decisions and solve problems
Knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods
Knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
Understanding of all facets of the construction process
Familiarity with construction management software packages
Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment
Ability to manage and mentor a team of inspectors and project support staff
Ability to successfully manage and deliver on multiple tasks with competing priorities
Ability to walk slowly around a construction sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
Ability to wear required safety equipment at sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), etc.
Stand for several hours observing and documenting critical construction operations (i.e. pouring concrete).
Operate a BC Pickup Truck to commute to jobsites and to access work areas on site
Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 foot typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
Lifting – objects on job sites less than 30 pounds
