Aurora Water is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the drinking water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage systems, treatment of drinking water and non-potable reclaimed wastewater for irrigation, billing and collection, public outreach and water conservation, acquisition and development of future water rights, major capital projects programs, and quality control for regulatory compliance and public health.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor plans, organizes and supervises the operation and maintenance of Sand Creek Water Reuse Facility and pumping system.

The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first come-first serve basis; as soon as we determine to have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

Primary Duties:

Supervises the operation, maintenance, repair and security of the wastewater reuse facility and pumping system
Establishes work schedules to ensure adequate staffing, assigns works tasks and supervises the activities of the operation and maintenance staff for the treatment facility
Administers performance evaluations on plan operators and maintenance personnel
Trains plant staff in the proper operation, procedures, and safety practices required for operating the facility
Makes recommendation regarding selecting, hiring, training, evaluating, and disciplining of assigned employees
Plans, schedules and directs preventive and corrective maintenance on plant facilities, equipment and processes
Inspects wastewater biological and chemical processes and equipment to ensure water quality is at or above State and Federal requirements
Checks daily control tests and interprets these tests to make any necessary changes
Prepares and/or maintains responsibility for the preparation, interpretation, and maintenance of a variety of records and reports relative to plant operation
Prepares any letters or notifications required by the NPDES Permit for violation and/or upsets
Recommends and approves ordering of supplies, chemicals, repair parts, equipment and other items necessary for the operation, maintenance and repair of the reuse system
Plans and prepares budget requests for Superintendent
Monitors budget expenditures
Responds to system malfunctions and takes corrective action to assure facility operates within State and EPA requirements as set forth in NPDES discharge permit
Serves as field coordinator on construction projects and reviewing submittals and drawing; and performs additional duties as assigned.

All selected candidates will be subject to the following pre-employment screening at the time of hire; to include a Criminal Background Check, Drug Screening & Physical Exam, and submittal of official transcripts of most relevant/highest level of education listed on the application.

Qualifications:
Education: Associate's degree in wastewater treatment related field.

Experience: At least 4 years progressively responsible experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment facility, to include at least 2 years supervisory or leadworker experience.

Knowledge: Knowledge of water reuse including new reuse regulations, wastewater treatment methods, procedures and techniques; knowledge of chemistry, hydraulics, flow principles, water analysis methods, and pumping operations; knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices for wastewater/reuse treatment facilities and equipment; knowledge of NPDES permits, knowledge of computers and programs used in the operations of a wastewater/reuse treatment plant.

Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers and citizens; resolve treatment problems and ensure effective operations; handle emergency situations in a professional manner; supervise other employees.

Skills: Skill in supervising employees; skill in budgeting.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

Colorado driver's license with a good driving history
Colorado Class A Wastewater Treatment Certificate
This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
