The Water/Wastewater Process Engineer will provide engineering support within the Water Planning and Design Unit. This unit provides engineering services to various departments within the Water Services Division to include planning, modeling, engineering and design of critical infrastructure related to raw water collection and storage, water treatment, potable and non-potable distribution systems, pumping stations and pipelines. This team of dedicated professionals meets the needs of our organization by ensuring infrastructure is planned, designed, constructed, and integrated appropriately. The W/WW Process Engineer will report to the Water Planning and Design Engineering Manager and is responsible for supporting and executing a variety of water infrastructure projects with additional opportunities to support a variety of wastewater infrastructure projects.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Water Treatment Process Design: Colorado Springs Utilities owns and operates 6 conventional drinking water treatment plants of various capacities utilizing surface water from surrounding watersheds and trans-mountain sources. The Baily WTP is our newest plant with an initial capacity of 50 MGD utilizing biological treatment process. Mesa WTP, our oldest plant is slated for Phase 1 improvements in 2018 to the flocculation and sedimentation processes. You will be part of a team of Water Treatment Process Subject Matter Experts for the organization. The position requires knowledge of the state of the practice/state of the art in treatment processes for municipal supply. You should have a working knowledge of plant hydraulics, chemical and treatment processes, process instrumentation and controls, process mechanical, and process optimization. The position requires the use of treatment process modeling, hydraulic modeling, and analytical software and understanding of water treatment principles to develop planning, design and technical recommendations for treatment process improvements, and understanding of drinking water regulations.
Infrastructure Planning and Design: You will be expected to have the knowledge and skills necessary to support and lead planning, engineering evaluations, and design activities for low to moderate complexity water treatment plant processes and systems which may include electrical, instrumentation and controls elements. Additionally, you will be expected to support planning, engineering evaluations, and design activities for raw water collection and transmission systems; pump and pipeline systems; potable and non-potable water distribution and storage systems. Opportunities also exist to work with and support other functions in the organization including W/WW plant operations, water resource supply, water system operations, water standards, and wastewater collection and treatment.
Construction Support: You will have the opportunity to support the construction phase of projects including but not limited to shop drawing and submittal review, field inspections, responses to contractor requests for information, and scope and quality management.

Qualifications:
So, what will it take to be successful in this position? A Bachelor of Science and/or post graduate degree from an ABET accredited institution in Civil, Environmental, Water Resource, Chemical, Mechanical or General Engineering related disciplines with demonstrated experience in municipal water/wastewater treatment process engineering is required. The ideal candidate will have 5 to 7 years or more experience at a Project Engineer level related to the above responsibilities. Wastewater Process Design Professionals with an interest in Water Treatment Process Design are strongly encouraged to apply. Post graduate degree can be substituted for a portion of the minimum experience required depending on actual post graduate degree obtained. Professional License (or through reciprocity) or ability to test within 6 months of hire date is required. Experience and knowledge with W/WTP process modeling; hydraulics for water/wastewater treatment processes; Process and Instrumentation Diagrams; Instrumentation and Controls and applicable software.
