Job Summary:

The focus of this position is to research, correlate, and disseminate timely and accurate information from multiple sources in direct support of law enforcement operations. The Command Information Center (CIC) is a multifaceted, highly-technical operations facility capable of intelligence gathering, coordination of field activities, and the multi-jurisdictional management of any type of emergency or critical incident at any given moment on a 24/7 basis. Major duties include:

Proactively monitors the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and other available situational awareness tools in preparation for collecting, synthesizing, and disseminating critical information in direct support of real-time events.
Collects and memorializes information related to violent crimes, unusual incidents, bomb threats, suspicious packages or persons, gun recoveries, and other incidents or events for the purposes of compiling a daily report.
Utilizes a variety of internal and external law enforcement databases and software programs to assist officers, detectives, and senior leadership with analysis of criminal activity.
Disseminates raw intelligence information or make critical notifications to multiple levels of agency personnel and various audiences.
Coordinates, monitors, and integrates valid law enforcement information while ensuring timely, comprehensive, and accurate response to requests.
Collaborates with other analysts and law enforcement personnel.
Handles a myriad of calls from the public to include both anonymous tips and common requests or concerns.
Draws rational conclusions and provides recommendations to law enforcement personnel based on research, analysis, and interpretation of information.
Makes recommendations in various law enforcement and operational areas.
Creates, maintains, and updates spreadsheets, databases, files, and networks, ensuring their security, confidentiality and integrity.
Prepares reports and other documents for law enforcement personnel.
Preserves confidentiality of sensitive materials.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Assignment requires knowledge or ability to learn law enforcement concepts, principles, practices, and skills in applying to knowledge to difficult work assignments. Therefore, the following skillset is required:

Technical ability to conduct research using various law enforcement databases and software and working knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Netviewer, AWARE, etc. (or the demonstrated ability to learn).
Knowledge or the ability to learn related Federal, State (Maryland and Virginia), and local DC laws, rules, and regulations.
Knowledge or ability to learn and adhere to Metropolitan Police Department Guidelines.
Ability to adapt to dynamic, high-stress, and fast-paced work environment.
Ability to multitask and prioritize a variety of requests and provide results in timely fashion.
Meticulous documentation skills, organizational ability, and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills to convey sensitive and accurate information both orally and in writing to various audiences.
Ability to think analytically and critically and be open to new ideas and approaches to difficult problems.
Have a demonstrated history of succeeding in a collaborative team environment.
Capability to build constructive working relationships with colleagues, outside organizations, and other government agencies.
Be able to take direction from and work with both civilian and sworn personnel.

None required.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred, but not required.

Work experience:

One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the District and/or federal service. Knowledge of or ability to learn concepts of law enforcement operations, investigations, or other related work. This experience may have been gained in fields related to law enforcement, such as criminal prosecutions, regulatory investigations, compliance review, or comprehensive audits or assessments of an investigative nature. Previous experience with law enforcement is recommended, but not required.
