Regular Full Time + Benefits
Four (4) 10-hour shifts, Mon-Fri, may include rotation through nights and weekends. OT as needed.

DEFINITION: Performs a variety of advanced technical duties related to operating, maintaining, installing and troubleshooting instrumentation, process control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for the City's Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Distribution and Collection Systems and Water Quality Laboratory.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES: Maintains documentation and records for the department’s instrumentation & control (I&C) systems at the water and wastewater treatment plants (schematics, licenses, etc.). Adjusts, calibrates and repairs electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment to insure proper operation. Develops and modifies I&C CAD drawings and plots. Maintains low voltage I&C equipment, and works with vendors to maintain up-to-date equipment and efficient operation of equipment and systems. Troubleshoots instruments and control system problems. Instructs operations personnel in proper use of instruments and controller systems. Installs, monitors, maintains, and documents SCADA, CMMS and other I&C related software and hardware. Modifies and creates SCADA screens. Performs system backups. Performs regular technical Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming of the SCADA system and ensures the HMI interfaces correctly with RTUs and instruments. Confers with operators, mechanics, project engineers and supervisors regarding water utility instrument issues. Respond to and resolve internal customer complaints and issues; provide documentation as required by customers. Assists with the purchasing of supplies, materials, equipment and related I&C services. Assist with I&C requests for proposals or bids, and help evaluate responses. Assists engineering and management staff with coordinating the work of external consultants and contractors related to I&C, including providing technical assistance as needed. Assists in the development and review of plans and specifications for treatment plant construction projects and equipment purchases. Prepares reports on technical issues as required. Develops, implements and maintains procedures for documenting I&C activities related to consultant projects, maintenance, and HMI modifications. Provides general and technical support to staff. Provides technical training to staff as assigned and assist staff in identifying applicable outside training. Maintains awareness of new technology; and performs additional duties as assigned.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a water/wastewater plant environment. The ability to read documents and blueprints is required. Mental effort includes the ability to solve problems, do detailed work, communicate verbally with supervisor and co-workers, and perform multiple concurrent tasks. Work is performed outside and inside both night and day shifts, under varying and extreme weather conditions; job includes working rotating shifts and working weekends and holidays. Work includes exposure to noise, dust, gases and oils, solvents and chemicals. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs and body is needed. Position requires the ability to work under time constraints and in confined spaces and the use of respirators.


Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of two years experience in automated instrumentation and control systems and/or maintenance and repair of industrial process control instrumentation. Experience with Emerson/Bristol Babcock 33XX RTUs, Emerson/Bristol Babcock ControlWave RTUs, and Iconics Genesis32 preferred. Experience with water or wastewater treatment Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA). Related technical coursework or Associates degree in Electronics or Instrumentation preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered. Special Qualifications: Possession of a Colorado Class D Operators Certificate or the ability to obtain within two testing cycles from the date of hire. The certificate can be for Water Operations or Wastewater Operations. Possession of a valid Colorado Driver's License.
