Description
Employee will perform daily focused and systematic studies and reviews of crimes and disorder problems as well as other law enforcement related issues; Perform daily evaluation and analysis of criminal intelligence information; Recommend investigative strategies; Monitor the levels and patterns of criminal incidents; Perform periodic tabulations of selected types of crime incidents; Prepare reports including area analyses, incident summarizations and crime pattern forecasts; Make analysis-based recommendations; Utilize graphs, charts, maps and other visual aids to describe findings; Present findings at various meetings and briefings; Respond to internal and external requests for information and records from police, operational and administrative staff, citizens, news media, and other law enforcement agencies; Assist with identification of funding sources and grant preparation.
Essential Duties

Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position. Conducts tactical analysis of complex criminal cases in determining criminal acts to include; organizing large amount of diverse information into concise analytical form; developing charts, graphs, and spreadsheets to graphically characterize criminal activities and associations.
Provide criminal strategic analysis, to include; developing plans of action for strategic assessments; conducting pro active threat assessments in predicting trends and patterns of existing and future criminal activity; applying various informational research methods and statistical analysis.
Design sampling methods to carry out strategic assessments; and recommending to requesters additional resources and/or further actions based on analytical findings.
Prepares and presents oral briefings and/or written reports to law enforcement agents and agency management on status and results of strategic and tactical analysis.
Conducts research on discriminate criminal activities that may result in new legislation or effect changes in existing laws.
Prepare computer-generated graphics in support of a wide range of law enforcement activities.
Collects and disseminates criminal information to support investigative activities.
May testify in judicial proceeding in support of criminal analysis.
Creates, adjusts and/or manages automated data files to accommodate specific investigative information.
Trains members of the law enforcement community on criminal analytical methods.
Prepares responses for internal and external requests for information in an organized, presentable format.



Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field or five years' experience in analysis of criminal/crime information, police science, criminal justice, criminology, criminal investigations as a legal assistant, paralegal, law clerk or other experience involving extensive research required.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and supervisors; Ability to exercise judgment in evaluating situations and in making operational decisions; Ability to follow verbal and written instruction.
Ability to perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy; Maintain flexibility and re-alter priorities in response to change; Interpret complex information; Work independently; Make oral presentations to individual or groups to provide information; Produces complex written documents.
Knowledge in research, investigation and analytical practices employed in the acquisition and dissemination of criminal intelligence information; Principles and techniques of inductive and deductive reasoning; Business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation required to produce complex written documents.
Working knowledge of the following computer programs is preferred – Spillman CAD/RMS, CAPERS, New World/Aegis, ArcView GIS, Crime View, Microsoft, Word Perfect, Access, Excel, and Graphics programs.
Ability to speak effectively in public and prepare documentation for dissemination to media which is accurate in detail and utilizes appropriate grammar, spelling, etc...

Computer/Keyboard, printer, photocopier, fax machine, telephone and office equipment.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Valid State issued Driver's License

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under general supervision of the Support Services Lieutenant.
