Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Utilities, performs and oversees the daily activities of the Wastewater Treatment Division of the Water Enterprise. Assists or supervises the Water Treatment Division as requested or assigned.
Work involves all aspects of operation and maintenance of the Wastewater treatment system. All work must be in compliance with applicable regulations and standards. An employee proceeds independently to complete assignments, coordinating matters as needed and resolving most problems encountered in the work; only new, policy or personnel matters are referred to others.
Essential Job Functions
Performs as Water Treatment Manager in his/her absence
Performs all the duties of a Plants Operator with proficiency
Supervises all lower classifications in operations including but not limited to training, job assignments, evaluation and corrective/disciplinary action
Produce a work schedule for operations personnel and make adjustments as necessary
All work must be in compliance with applicable polices, rules, regulations and laws
Other Duties
Assist the Utilities Director in the department budget preparation and assures operations are performed within the Board approved budget. May be required to attend job related meetings outside the District
Performs related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge
Knowledge of principles, practices, materials and equipment used in water and wastewater treatment
Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Abilities
Ability to operate equipment in a safe manner; to maintain effective working relationships with persons at all levels, to write and speak clearly and concisely
Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.)
Education/Certifications Required
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Class “R” driver’s license.
Must have and maintain Colorado Class “B” Water and Class “B” Wastewater certifications or the ability to acquire within six months from the date of appointment to this position.
Minimum Experience Required
Six years of progressively responsible related experience at least two of which in a supervisory capacity, and at least four years as a Plants Operator
Special Requirements
Must provide own safety footwear. Must be available by telephone or other communication device
Physical Demands
Frequent use of keyboard devices, frequently requires heavy lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, crawling, crouching and climbing, field visits require walking over uneven or rough terrain
Unusual Demands
Employee is subject to reoccurring deadlines and interruptions, subject to work hazards and unpleasant conditions, occasionally works unusual hours, weekend and holidays, occasional exposure to inclement weather, occasionally required to work beyond normally secluded work hours. Employee may be required to participate in a stand by or on call duty as necessary
Work Schedule
Regular organizational business hours are Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm.
