ANNUAL APPEAL - DONATE NOW!

Chestnut Hill Community Associations 2020-2021 Annual Appeal

Message from Kathi Clayton, CHCA Board President:

Stronger together! The Chestnut Hill Community Association’s mission is to connect people, foster good will and strengthen community ties. 2020 threw us all a curve ball.

In these challenging times the funds raised by the Annual Appeal this year are more important to the ongoing operations of the CHCA than ever before in its history and we are asking for your support.

We greatly appreciate our members whose annual dues help keep the organization solvent however very few non-profit organizations can sustain themselves simply by membership fees alone. Funds raised by the Annual Appeal help cover the costs of the CHCA’s day to day operations, community projects and events.

No one imagined we would be in the midst of a global pandemic that requires us to socially distance to protect ourselves and others from a highly contagious disease. Yet here we are- dealing with a potentially lethal virus which can infect anyone and everyone. The CHCA is proud to have honored all area essential workers with the CHCA 2020 Annual Meritorious Award. They have done, and continue to do so much, for the community at large.

In past years many of you have participated in the CHCA Holiday House Tours, March Basketball tournaments, Outdoor Concerts, Movies, Parades, and our fund-raising event, The Black and White Gala. Not this year. The Association held no large gatherings, and none are planned in the near future.

Our board, small staff and volunteers are working diligently to keep you informed, connected, and entertained. The CHCA sponsored an outdoor socially distanced dinner with local restaurants in late summer. We have held virtual events: a jazz evening, a lovely garden tour and a pumpkin carving contest, a holiday door decorating contest, and several other holiday activities.

The CHCA is a Registered Community Organization (RCO) with the city of Philadelphia. As the convening RCO the CHCA brings area organizations together to provide constituents with valued civic and social activities and information. The Development Review Committee, Land Use Planning and Zoning and monthly board meetings are open to the public currently on Zoom. Our monthly e-news is emailed and posted online. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram.

Please be generous in your support of the Chestnut Hill Community Association’s Annual Appeal. The CHCA is a 501c3 organization. All contributions are tax deductible.

We appreciate your consideration and thank you. Stay safe and well.
Kathi Clayton
Board President

Additional activities supported by donations to the Annual Appeal

Community activities such as the Pastorius Park Concert Series.  Together with neighbors and friends we will soon be bringing our picnic dinners to Pastorius Park’s natural open-air amphitheater to enjoy a wonderful evening of high quality, professional music.  We look forward to once again sponsoring free community activties such as the Holiday Parade, Movie Nights, and many more.

The Annual Appeal also supports development projects such as the Chestnut Hill Fire House
In Chestnut Hill, we love our old buildings, but what to do when a classic building can no longer function as it was intended? This was the problem presented to Chestnut Hill in 2015 by the Philadelphia Fire Department. With changing technology, and larger fire trucks, our beloved Fire House was no longer viable. Thanks to the committed efforts of our Physical Division volunteers and partners, the Fire Department heard our concerns about losing this historic building and agreed that, rather than replacing it, they could add to it in a way that allows Chestnut Hill to stay safe and keep its beloved Fire House. The CHCA invested an enormous amount of time and effort, working with many excellent representatives of the Philadelphia Fire Department and the Chestnut Hill Conservancy, to arrive at an outstanding solution that will carry through to the 21st century. Challenges like this are exactly why the CHCA exists. Your support helps us make this important work possible.
