Brief Description
Reporting to Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness within the President's Office, this position provides direction, coordination and assistance with administrative and curricular outcomes assessment and the use of assessment of student learning outcomes within academic programs. The Director of Assessment is responsible for ensuring assessment is in accordance with the accreditation requirements of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In this comprehensive position, the Director will work closely with leaders across the institution to direct best practice assessment activities, ensure the availability of and/or provide data spreadsheets and reports necessary for assessment compliance, and support institutional assessment with one-on-one and group workshops, as needed.

Job Details

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide direction and coordination to the process, procedures, and tools used for assessment.
  2. Promote best practices for using assessment results to foster continuous institutional improvement.
  3. For both academic and administrative assessment, consult with and assist Deans, Department Chairs, Faculty, Programs, Committees and administrative leaders regarding the design and implementation of assessment activities, analysis and interpretation of data, and the measures and tools used for assessment purposes.
  4. Interface with the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Committees for assessment activities and reporting.
  5. With the Provost/VPAA, co-chair the Institutional Assessment Working Group, provide support for assessment activities needed by specialized accrediting bodies (e.g., Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation, Council on Social Work Education, National Association of Schools of Art and Design, National Association of Schools of Music, and National Association of School Psychologists).
  6. Utilize technologies to streamline, facilitate and strengthen assessment activities.
  7. Extract and provide data to leaders, as necessary.
  8. Organize resource materials and professional development opportunities.
  9. Manage and ensure adherence to a calendar of assessment-related activities and reporting requirements.
  10. Provide support to the MSCHE self-study process.
  11. Submit an annual assessment report to the President.

 

Requirements:

  1. Master's degree in educational assessment, measurement, social sciences or other related discipline required; Doctoral degree preferred.
  2. Minimum of two years of experience in educational research and assessment.
  3. Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative methods in designing and conducting assessments of student learning outcomes in higher education.
  4. Familiarity with the accreditation requirements of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and other accrediting organizations preferred.
  5. Intermediate level computer skills using a Windows based operating system, specifically MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required.
  6. Experience with assessment technologies preferred.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with Deans, Department Chairs, Faculty and Administrators.
  8. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
