Brief Description
Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, the Institutional Research Analyst, will provide analytic support to the functions of the OIRA office, collaboratively create and enforce policies reflecting best practices, provide consultative support to external offices gained from quantities and qualitative analysis or regular and ad hoc request. The Institutional Research Analyst will work with various offices (including, but not limited to, admissions, financial aid, CAAR, the Graduate School, and the Registrar’s Office) to address issues and concerns with the quality of institutional information with the goal of increased reliability of institutional data.

Job Details
Under the general direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Assessment, the Institutional Research Analyst, will provide analytic support to the functions of the OIRA office, collaboratively create and enforce policies reflecting best practices, provide consultative support to external offices gained from quantities and qualitative analysis or regular and ad hoc request. The Institutional Research Analyst will work with various offices (including, but not limited to, admissions, financial aid, CAAR, the Graduate School, and the Registrar’s Office) to address issues and concerns with the quality of institutional information with the goal of increased reliability of institutional data.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (other duties may be assigned)
 
Data Aggregation, Analysis, and Consultation (40%)
  •  Employ standard validation techniques and practices to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the institutional information in the institution’s data tools and the OIRA source files.
  • Aggregate institutional information (regular reporting and ad hoc requests) for dissemination in thoughtful, clear, and easily-interpreted charts, visualizations, and publications.
  • Coordinate the collection of information from various departments for external requests (college guides, requests from the Federal Government, etc.)
  • Work with internal offices, in a consultative role, throughout the data request process. Provided guidance to offices to ensure that provided information meets the needs of the requestor’s office.
  • Coordinate the aggregation of information, both internal and external to OIRA, for the completion of the annual Fact Book.
  • Execute, as needed, queries from the National Student Clearing House. 
Survey Management (30%)
  • Provide consultative support to offices on the design, administration, and analysis of institutional surveys.
  • As needed, work with office to interpret survey results for strategic decision making.
  • With the Director, establish the survey schedule for the year, and publish that survey to the OIRA website.
  • Administer the set up, and execution of the course evaluations.
Policy Management (20%)
  • Coordinate the development, refinement, execution, and updating of office policies and procedures so they support best IR practices. Policies include, but are not limited to, data request guidelines, records and retention policies, data use guidelines and expectations, confidentiality agreements, survey administration policy, and data transparency policy.
  • Monitor, with the Director, institutional trends and activities and ensure that established policies and practices conform to those activities and trends.
  • Provide expert policy support to external offices (Information Technology, Data Governance Council, etc.) to ensure that decisions within those offices and groups are documented and reflect the work of those groups.
 
Office and Institutional Support (10%)
  •  Continuously review and update the OIRA Office Manual to ensure office functionality.
  • Update and maintain the OIRA website with accurate, relevant, and up-to-date institutional information.
  • Review the consumer information page, and coordinate the update of that information with the appropriate office(s) as needed.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required and 1 to 2 years of experience in research or a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in a related field preferred. Experience in higher education is required. Familiarity with the various laws that affect higher education is required (FERPA, Title IV and IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1965 (HEOA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, etc.)
 
Language Skills
Ability to effectively present information and positively respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, staff, and the general public both in person and over the phone. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
 
Mathematical Skills
Strong statistical and analytical skills required. Ability to work with and apply statistical and mathematical concepts timely and accurately, either manually, by using a calculator, or a spreadsheet package (such as Excel); demonstrated knowledge of assessment including data collection, data analysis, and reporting; and experience working with a variety of databases; and the use of computer applications to manipulate and analyze data is required. Ability to use SPSS is preferred, but not required.
 
Technology Skills
Thorough knowledge and mastery of productivity suite software such as Microsoft Office, statistical software packages (such as SPSS), and website and database development software. Experience with Data visualization tools (such as Power BI) is desired, but not expected. Experience with ERP software and student information systems (such as PowerCampus) is required.
 
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to hypothesize, draw conclusions, and support conclusions. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate. Ability to use appropriate statistical inference skills.
