Brief Description
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Effectiveness, the Institutional Research and Analytics Specialist provides strategic data analysis, research, and consultation support for planning, executive decision-making, and assessment activities across the College. In close collaboration with PSU campus stakeholders and the Center for DATA, this positions plays a leadership role in framing research and analysis projects, sourcing and developing accurate and relevant data, and helping stakeholders translate information into action plans. This position is responsible for completion and submission of required state and federal reports regarding University activities and the lifecycle of University surveys.

Duty/Responsibility

Data Management and Analysis: Extract data from student information system for a variety of analytic and reporting purposes. Transform data into usable information by applying expertise in statistical analysis, longitudinal trend interpretation, external knowledge-bases, and various software tools. Prepare objective special reports, and executive updates provide targeted recommendations based on institutional performance and research results. Conduct time critical internal and external ad hoc requests for reporting and analyses. Work closely with Center for DATA to develop improved data data structures and streamlined processes for obtaining, analyzing, and reporting data.

Duty/Responsibility

Research: Direct and conduct qualitative and quantitative studies of prospects, students, faculty, and staff to fulfill external reporting requirements and to support institutional planning, operations, and enrollment management initiatives. Provide support for survey design, implementation and interpretation as needed by academic programs and other University constituencies. Oversee research project aspects including: instrument development, sample design, response collection, interpretation of findings, and report generation. Manages data sets, verifies data to ensure data integrity, and prepares reports and analyses in support of key institutional activities and strategic plan goals

Duty/Responsibility

Compliance and External Reporting: Manage and coordinate the compilation and reporting of extensive demographic, financial, and enrollment data to the University System, NECHE, and other external agencies, as well as in response to surveys from state and national “college guide” web sites and publications. Serve as the IPEDS Institutional Keyholder, keeping the University in compliance with Department of Education reporting mandates. Interpret new federal and state regulations to assess and report on their impact on the College’s accountability requirements. Provide data and support for periodic accreditation reporting and visitation planning. Produce content for publication on the Office of Institutional Effectiveness’ website. Serve as the University’s official central source for externally reported data. Coordinate data definitions and reporting with other Center for DATA IR&A colleagues who represent other USNH campuses.

Duty/Responsibility

Planning and Assessment: Play a key role in the periodic review and development of institutional Strategic and Master Plans, by employing group facilitation, research, and analysis expertise to help synthesize staff contributions into measurable objectives, strategies, and tactics. Assist with development of business plans to support new initiatives. Provide data analysis and planning support for ongoing assessment of academic programs, courses, and non-academic departments.

Duty/Responsibility

Campus Involvement and Communication: Develop and regularly publish statistical and narrative reports for Senior Leadership and the broader College community. Design and contribute to multimedia presentations for internal and external audiences. Provide data support for marketing communications and the University web site. Serve on committees or working groups when feasible and appropriate.

Minimum qualifications

5 years of experience in higher education, research, and analytics; Experience with SQL and relational databases; Ability to write concise analytical reports for specific audiences.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Tableau;
Understanding of Banner SIS.
