SUNY Empire State College seeks an Institutional Research Coordinator (State Title: Staff Assistant) to coordinate and manage survey administration and data collection processes for major institutional surveys. Surveys to include the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), the Empire State College Faculty and Staff Workplace Climate Surveys, and the SUNY Sexual Violence Prevention Campus Climate Survey. The Institutional Research Coordinator will also monitor the due dates of mandated reporting requirements imposed by SUNY, NYSED, IPEDS and Middle States and assist with the compilation of information necessary to satisfy those obligations. This position will be responsible for managing all processes associated with the dissemination of surveys for programs seeking continuing accreditation.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Retrieve information necessary to complete ad hoc data requests, and respond to such requests in an organized, efficient and professional manner.
  • Implement quality control measures on data reported to SUNY via the SUNY Institutional Research Information System (SIRIS), New York State, and IPEDS and reconcile errors uncovered through the process to ensure the integrity of our mandated reporting.
  • Respond to an array of regional college profile surveys throughout the year from publications across NYS (i.e., the Albany Business Review, the Buffalo Business First Journal, the Central New York Business Journal, the Long Island Regional Advisory Council on Higher Education, and the Rochester Business Journal).
  • Complete college guidebook surveys in a timely manner (e.g., the College Board's Annual Survey of Colleges, the ACT Institutional Data Questionnaire, Peterson's Survey of Undergraduate Colleges, and the Wintergreen Orchard House Survey).
  • Support Institutional Effectiveness and Data Governance initiatives through the provision of research, general analyses, and informational materials utilizing a variety of modalities for dissemination (e.g., reports, presentations, infographics, and webinars).
  • Manage and maintain development of effective professional and technical skills within and beyond the college and SUNY system by attending educational workshops/conferences, reviewing professional publications and maintaining currency on the relevant literature in higher education.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support survey development, research initiatives, and conference presentations/publications.
  • Compile, develop, and update essential data and reports on topics including enrollment, retention and graduation, and assessment (e.g., trend data, term data bytes, National Student Clearinghouse Cohort Completions information brief, Status of Entering Undergraduate Cohorts 6 Years After Initial ESC Enrollment)
  • Assist with the maintenance and design of the Decision Support website.
  • Represent Decision Support at meetings and other functions internal and external to the college, as necessary.


Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, in social sciences, math, or related fields
  • Some background in, and affinity for, research methods and quantitative data analysis and enthusiasm for professional development in these areas
  • Experience working in a complex organizational setting
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness and follow through
  • Ability to contribute to team oriented environment
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel and Word
  • Some experience with analytical software such as SPSS, SAS or Stata
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must possess maturity in judgment, and the ability to maintain a high degree of integrity while handling confidential data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A graduate degree in social sciences or a related field
  • Experience with outcomes assessment, program evaluation/accreditation, or institutional research
  • Experience with an array of software including that which facilitates: desktop publishing, online survey administration, and location intelligence
  • Experience with survey development, web design and electronic portfolios
  • Experience with data management, retrieval, and reporting
  • Experience working in a dispersed organizational environment

Special Information: 

  • This position may require some weekends
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Schedule:  Monday - Friday,  8:30 am - 5:00 pm
