- Drawing on both technical and analytical competencies, the Systems & Research Analyst will extract, analyze, visualize, and describe a variety of institutional data for use both internally for operational and strategic decision making and externally for informational and official reporting to state and federal agencies and other external organizations as assigned. The Systems & Research Analyst will be expected to develop collegial working relationships within the unit, across campus units and with off-campus constituents; continually hone her/his technical, analytical, and problem solving skills; and participate in committees and other work groups as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Extract data from multiple systems, including the University’s PeopleSoft systems, data warehouse, and other identified data sources (e.g., student records, position control, general ledger, facility inventory, payroll, and personnel records) for the purposes of reporting and decision support.
- Create and maintain complex databases, manage large data sets, and extract files through the use of SQL, SAS, or other programming languages/applications with a strong emphasis on data integrity, data quality, and designing efficient processes and mechanisms to store and retrieve data.
- Develop a systematic and efficient methodology for coding (i.e. version control, modular and reusable code, etc...) for generating data extracts, tables, and reports. Effectively document business and technical metadata and work with divisional data stewards to align their processes and data systems with information needs.
- Develops data models for reporting solutions including coordination of live and archive data, external data sources, and communication between development groups involved in the design, development, and delivery of the final product(s). Works within current office and campus systems, such as BICS, MyInsights, Tableau, Excel, Access, and Visio, to design and demonstrate prototypes and/or solutions for the organization.
- Clearly and concisely organize and summarize results through written communication and data displays such as tables, charts, etc.
- Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the culture of a data-driven university, serve on committees and workgroups as assigned, participate in professional development, and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required in information sciences, social sciences, mathematics or a related field plus five years of professional experience in a role that requires similar skills.
- High level of technical competence, including SQL, SAS or SPSS, and PeopleSoft or other enterprise reporting system. Strong understanding of complex data systems such as data warehouse structures.
- Ability to organize and sequence complex computer programs and queries. Ability to run queries and perform analyses.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including demonstrated skills in research methods and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written, numerical, and graphical forms; ability to work as part of a team of professionals and collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
- The position also requires: a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to details, solid proofreading skills, ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines, and adherence to ethical and legal standards in research.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in institutional research, functional data area (i.e., admissions, finance, HR, registrar), or other higher education analysis and reporting.
- Experience and proficiency with MS Access or other database systems.
- Familiarity with higher education journals and literature.
- Extensive knowledge of external data resources and capacity to merge various structures into existing data files.
