Job Details

The analyst will determine what data is relevant to a particular set of issues and either arrange for the collection of additional data or obtain data from existing University resources, including various electronic databases. The analyst will determine what statistical technique is most appropriate to a question, carry out analysis, and prepare and present reports. This position will work with a variety of data types, but will focus in particular on faculty data. This position will collect, refine, and manage data from internal and external information systems, surveys, and data stewards. The analyst will bring high levels of precision and rigor to data maintenance and analysis, as data elements may have multiple definitions and different audiences may require idiosyncratic definitions.  The analyst will understand how the data is used in decisions related to all issues related to faculty across the lifecycle (e.g., from search through tenure through retention) and across the 14 schools that comprise Yale, including graduate and professional schools. This understanding will enable the analyst to design the most effective analytical approach to respond to broad questions and to proactively suggest analysis on emerging topics of interest. The analyst will work with administrators and/or faculty committees to formulate what data and analyses may bear on a particular University policy question. This position will collaborate with multiple offices and establish relationships with other offices to strengthen university data collection and analysis.

Additional Information: This position can be filled at the level of Analyst or Senior Analyst. The level of the position will be determined based on the level of experience and skill set of the successful candidate.

Required Education and Experience:  Master's Degree in a related discipline and four years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability with large, complex data sets and managing data quality – both for statistical analysis and ongoing data management. 
  • Ability to design analysis on the basis of a broad question. Interest in determining the best data sources to answer a question, fostering the development of new data resources when necessary. 
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Ability to prioritize and follow through on projects. Ability to work independently on several projects of varying scope at the same time. Ability to react to changing situations and adapt to changes in work demands, priorities, and procedures exercising good judgment, seeking alternatives and creative solutions. 
  • Well-developed collaborative interpersonal communication skills with ability to communicate to non-technical audiences. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, interacting with a diverse array of faculty, students and staff. Exercises sound judgment, tact, and discretion. 
  • Statistical analysis skills including multiple regression. Demonstrated ability with one or more of the following statistical software packages: SAS (preferred), SPSS, STATA, or R. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. 
  • Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Experience working with institutional data regarding faculty or similar populations. Experience executing queries against relational databases. Experience with Workday, Hyperion (Brioquery) or Tableau. Experience or training in survey design.
