Brief Description
Primary Purpose of Position:
The Data Visualization Analyst (DVA) works closely with all members of the Data, Analytics, & Reporting Technology Services team (DARTS), as well as additional personnel within IT and functional area end users to create UMS reports and dashboards that aid UMS functional areas, internal and external reporting, and UMS administrators’ decision support. The DVA works together with the DARTS team in a role of re-envisioning essential reporting towards the visual, and works together with functional area users to better understand their business processes and their data in order to maximize the usefulness of created visualizations. The DVA also contributes to DARTS documentation efforts.

Full Time, Regular, Exempt Position

 

The University of Maine Systems seeks to fill the position of Data Visualization Analyst.  The preferred work location is on the Orono campus of the University of Maine.  Internal UMS employees may continue to work from their current campus location, with some travel to Orono required.

Essential Duties

  • Create data reports & visualizations that respond to various stakeholder needs
  • Create interactive visualizations that allow users to interact with university data through a process of secure data discovery
  • Assist in the gathering of requirements & specifications for analytical reporting deliverables
  • Employ iterative development methodology for visualizations to ensure value of deliverables and efficiency of production, including as related to data governance issues
  • Assist in the validation of reports & visualizations using triangulation of data sources and collaboration with end users to ensure accuracy and value 
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation related to analytical reporting tools, and the reports and dashboards executed therein, for various groups of end users.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of equivalent relevant experience and education.
  • Prior experience with quantitative data analysis
  • Prior experience with the presentation of data analyses (through any presentation medium)
  • Prior experience with generating questions addressable with data

 

Preferred:

  • Prior experience visualizing data
  • Prior experience in graphic design
  • Experience in a higher education setting, especially with higher education data

 


The salary range is low 40's to low $50's  based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.  In addition, the UMS retirement program provides a 10% employer contribution.   The UMS is a recipient of the Wellness Councils of America’s Well Workplace Award and offers wellness programs.
