Brief Description
This Research Analyst I position in the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment will be part of the Assessment and Evaluation team. Under general direction, this position manages the administration of internal surveys, analysis of survey data and production of narrative and graphical reports and presentations used to inform planning and decision making, assessment of student learning and aspects of institutional effectiveness. Responsibilities include managing all phases of university survey administration, including but not limited to: development of survey instruments, determination of methodologies of data collection, marketing and publicity, communication to key stakeholders and selection of the population sample. Responsibilities also include the compilation, validation, management and analysis of the survey data and the summarization of survey results to produce reports and presentations tailored to target audiences. The Research Analyst will be responsible for maintaining a database and other records of university surveys, including a calendar of survey activity. The successful candidate will respond to ad-hoc requests for survey information, research and/or data and provide support and guidance to university constituents on survey design, development and administration. Additionally, the Research Analyst will assist in developing systems for data collection and statistical analysis; conduct and summarize background research (ex: literature reviews, benchmarking, internet searches); and provide support, communication and content organization for the institutional survey committee. The incumbent assists the assessment and evaluation team with assessment projects and research and performs other duties as assigned.

Job Details
Essential Functions:
-Manage all phases of university survey administration, including: item development, marketing and publicity, communication with key stakeholders, pulling appropriate samples.
-Compile and analyze survey data using quantitative and/or qualitative analysis techniques. 
-Responsible for validating the accuracy of data for assigned survey projects.
-Summarize survey results to produce narrative and graphical survey reports and presentations tailored to a target audience.
-Maintain database and records of university surveys, including a calendar of survey activity to track the level of survey research on various university constituencies and ensure that populations are not being over surveyed.
-Respond to ad-hoc requests for survey information, research and/or data and provide support and guidance to university constituents on survey design, development and administration (paper-based and electronic).
-Assist in developing systems for data collection and statistical analysis.
-Conduct background research, such as literature reviews, benchmarking and/or internet searches, and summarize findings.
-Provide support, communication and organize content for the institutional survey committee.
-Manage assessment programs, including outcomes measures.
-Assist the assessment and evaluation team with other assessment projects and research.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
 
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, statistics, educational research or related field.  At least three years of directly related experience.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate will have strong data management skills including the ability to manage large data sets and the ability to work with relational databases and SPSS (or SAS).  Strong Statistical and analytical skill sets and the proven ability to write effectively without the need of an external editor are essential.

Preferred:
-Master's degree in social sciences, statistics, educational research, or related field.
-Experience working with Banner (or other student information / ERP systems).
-Experience working with internal university survey data.
-Experience working in an Institutional Research office.

-Demonstrated ability to work with relational databases, SPSS (or SAS) and web
application programs.
-Strong statistical and analytical skill set.

-Strong customer service skills, along with the ability to interact with a diverse group of
students, faculty, and staff.
-Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, in a fast paced environment.
-Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other applications software.
