Brief Description
Under the general supervision of the Director for Policy and Planning Analysis, the Research Analyst will assist in data collection, research support, analysis, data visualization, and reporting that informs strategic decision-making and planning, as well as extensively support the operations of Course and Teacher Survey (CATS) system, which is the University’s course evaluation process.

This position requires demonstrated analytical and organizational skills with knowledge of research methods, statistical techniques, and quantitative and qualitative methods; proficiency with managing and analyzing data using SPSS, Excel and/or other software.

Job Details
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the data collection and data management for various OPIR projects;
  • Prepare institutional responses to internal and external queries related to the academic enterprise;
  • Gather data from internal and external sources for benchmarking and to address pertinent questions;
  • Conduct research and statistical analysis using SPSS;
  • Effectively organize research results for presentations in tabular and graphical formats;
  • Work on special projects and engage in new initiatives, as assigned.
  • Support CATS Systems Administrator with the programming, set-up, and management of separate course and teacher evaluation surveys in the eXplorance Blue software;
  • Communicate with department administrators and faculty on a regular basis on questions/issues related to the process;
  • Perform multivariate statistical analysis on the raw course evaluation survey data;
  • Produce course section-specific reports at the end of every semester;
  • Assist in preparing special CATS historical tenure reports twice a year or as needed;
  • Assist in the development, compilation, and maintenance of various CATS related materials for the website and internal communications to various constituencies;
  • Any ad hoc projects related to CATS.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a research or analytical field of study, such as, statistics, social sciences, educational research, or a closely related field is required. Candidates with Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years’ experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years related research or analytical experience, preferably in institutional research in higher education.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to manipulate, summarize, and produce reports from multiple, large, and complex data sets with high attention to detail, data quality, and accuracy;
  • Knowledge of research methods, intermediate/advanced statistics, and qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Capacity for self-management; the ability to handle multiple project assignments simultaneously, independently prioritize effort, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and to draw conclusions;
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in SPSS or any other statistical software at the intermediate to advanced level;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively visualize results. Knowledge of data visualization software such as Tableau or Cognos Analytics is preferred.
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new software and/or ERP systems (such as, Blue eXplorance, Banner).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
