Brief Description
Supports the information needs of the university, particularly executives and senior administrators, through the management, analysis, and communication of information to promote data-informed decision making, planning, and resource allocation.

Leads the reporting, business intelligence and analytics efforts of the institutional research office by overseeing the completion and submission of information for state and federal agencies, consortiums, ranking agencies and other external organizations; performing and overseeing the development of descriptive studies, reports and dashboards that support institutional decision making; managing the maintenance of the existing dashboards and internal reports; and overseeing the survey administration and analysis practices.
 
Coordinates and implements a broad range of institutional research activities in support of the university’s planning, decision support, and reporting activities.

Job Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:
  • Perform and/or oversee the development of descriptive studies, analytics, reports and dashboards that supports institutional decision making
  • Perform and/or oversee completion and submission of information for state and federal agencies, consortiums, ranking agencies and other external organizations
  • Extract, transform, analyze, and summarize data using various tools including SAS, R, SQL and Tableau.
  • Perform and/or oversee the maintenance of existing university dashboards and internal reports that facilitate understanding about key university issues
  • Oversee the administration and analysis of select surveys
  • Synthesize and communicate information using a variety of media and presentation formats
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of best practices in institutional research, analytics and data visualization
Required Qualifications
5 years of progressive experience in Institutional Research, Analytics, or related field.

Skills:
  • Demonstrated proficiency with SAS, R or equivalent software
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards with Tableau or equivalent BI tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in querying, cleaning and transforming large data sets.
  • General understanding of fundamentals of statistics and quantitative analytics.
  • Detail oriented, with ability to manage time and organize competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex information, assess problems, and develop and effective solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey analytical information in a clear, concise manner.
  • Ability to lead, supervise, mentor, and train other analysts.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects including planning, coordinating, designing, and developing business intelligence, reporting and/or analytics solutions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with leading or supervising analysts.
  • Familiarity with higher education reporting such as IPEDS, NYSED, and Common Data Set, etc.
  • Experience with survey administration, design and/or analysis.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in a related field
