101 Introduction to Construction Estimating is a self-paced class which is the gateway to more complex and trade specific estimating courses. This online course is designed to help estimators polish their estimating skills and learn the basic skills that are absolutely required to produce successful construction estimates.

Students who successfully complete Introduction to Construction Estimating will learn the basic principles of construction estimating. Topics to be studied include:
  • organization of the estimate
  • types of estimates
  • elements of an estimate
  • quantity take off techniques
  • pricing techniques
  • adjusting the estimate for a variety of variable factors
  • estimating labor, materials and equipment
  • profit and overhead markups
Upon completing this course the student will understand the different types of estimates and how to organize an estimating document.

This course will build a foundation of knowledge that the student will use while estimating virtually any individual trade or project type

This construction math self-paced class is intended to develop mathematical skills that can be applied to the construction trade through practice and application. This course is an introduction to other courses in construction. While this class is not a prerequisite for any other classes, it does provide a foundation for them.


By the end of this class you should:
  • be able to use and understand all operations on fractions and decimals that are common to the construction industry.
  • be able to convert measurements from fractions to decimals
  • be able to calculate area, and volume of various shapes
  • be able to convert measurements from cubic feet to cubic yards
  • be able to measure the volume of concrete footings, slabs, walls, and columns.
  • be able to calculate board feet
  • be able to calculate and measure for basic constructions in wood and concrete

This 103 construction blueprint reading class covers a foundation skill in construction. All construction professionals, regardless of whether they are working in the field or in the office, must know how to read blueprints. Blueprint reading is not terribly difficult but it does require practice and some basic knowledge of blueprints.

This online blueprint reading course is designed to provide you with that foundation knowledge and enough practice at reading blueprints to get you started.  Mastery of blueprint reading will come with practice and with using blueprints on the job on a regular basis.

This 105 estimating and bidding online course features hands-on estimating and quantity take off activities associated with General Conditions, Site Work, Concrete and Form work, and Masonry Estimating.

By the end of this class you should be able to:
  1. Estimate the cost of general conditions
  2. Prepare quantity take off of excavation and back-fill
  3. Prepare a quantity take off of concrete, and form work
  4. Use unit prices to price your estimate
  5. Prepare a quantity take off and conceptual estimate of masonry work
  6. The Certificate in Construction Estimating program includes this class.

To do well in this 105 estimating and bidding course you should already have the following skills:
  • Know how to read blueprints
  • Know how to use a spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel, Numbers (Mac), or the spreadsheet software found in open source software programs 
  • Have a basic knowledge of construction estimating subjects including:
  • Basic math skills
  • Estimating terminology (quantity take off, unit price, production rate, etc.)
  • Use of the calculator and architectural scale
  • Be able to organize your work so it can be easily understood by others
