This webinar will offer an overview of social functioning as it relates to social success. The similarities and differences between shyness and social anxiety will be reviewed. Ways in which social anxiety impact patients, including bullying of children and teens, will be identified. The role of social anxiety in the diagnosis of adult patients will be discussed. The program concludes with suggestions for evidence-based intervention.
 
By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify and describe the similarities and differences between shyness and social anxiety.
  2. Identify and discuss the ways in which social anxiety impacts likeability and bullying for children and teens.
  3. Diagnose adults with long-standing social difficulties.
  4. Critique treatment options for social anxiety.
This introductory presentation has a target audience of clinicians, residents, graduate students, interns, and pre-doctoral students.
Sandra Burkhardt, PhD, ABPP
Dr. Sandra Burkhardt is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of childhood disorders. She earned a doctoral degree in clinical psychology with a specialization in child clinical psychology from DePaul University in Chicago. Dr. Burkhardt has over 25 years of experience as a university professor as well as working with children and their families. Dr. Burkhardt is a Fellow of the Academy of Clinical Psychology and the Illinois Psychological Association. She is board certified in Clinical and Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. She is currently a staff therapist at CRG in Indianapolis.
Dr. Burkhardt reports fees for services as an independent contractor at CRG, and fees for services as owner and president of Burkhardt Services, Ltd.

Indiana State Psychology Board and Indiana Behavioral Health Board:
· IPA is an approved provider of Category I continuing education for psychologists.
· IPA is  an approved provider of Category I continuing education for LSW, LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMFTA, LCAC and LAC.
 
Licensees must judge the program’s relevance to their professional practice.
 
Please note that APA rules require that credit be given only to those who attend the entire workshop.  Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time or leaving early will not receive CE credits.  Partial credit cannot be given.
 
Licensees who attend the entire webinar and complete the evaluation form will receive a CE certificate via email.

Cancellations: 
Cancellations prior to August 16th will receive a refund minus a 25% fee.  No refunds after August 16th.  All cancellation requests must be received by IPA in writing.  Contact the IPA office to confirm receipt of cancellation request.
