About the webcast
One of the biggest challenges a Reading Recovery teacher faces is supporting children at their cutting edge of learning. Explore both reading and writing prompts and how you can effectively adjust your prompts for each child and his or her individual needs. Includes a video clip as well as specific examples at different points in a child's lesson series -- early, middle, and late.
About the presenters Shannon Henderson is an assistant professor of elementary and literacy eduction at the University of Alabama, and a former Reading Recovery trainer.
Janet Bufalino is a Reading Recovery trainer and chair of the reading department at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bufalino began her career in literacy as a Title I teacher and during her years as a reading specialist she supported children in Grades K-6. As the trainer for Shippensburg University, Janet works with teacher training sites in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
From 2008-2010, Janet coordinated the Pennsylvania State of Education’s Reading Recovery Initiative. The focus of the initiative is to implement Reading Recovery in elementary schools across Pennsylvania that have not met AYP. Through the initiative, 155 teachers and 14 teacher leaders were trained, representing urban, rural, and suburban school districts.

After you purchase the webcast at the RRCNA Store, an instruction page will open on your screen. It will contain links to any downloadable handouts, important playback instructions, and a link to begin the webcast. (If you order by fax or mail, these will be sent to you when your transaction is completed.)
A broadband Internet connection such as DSL, cable, or a T1 is required. Dialup connections will not support streaming video. If you are using an outdated browser, you will be alerted to upgrade to a version supported by the video software. Due to the size of the viewing window, this presentation is best viewed by an individual or a small group. The window can be expanded to full screen, but the video quality will be greatly reduced. Older browsers also will not support full-screen viewing.
If the webcast will be presented for training purposes, you should test it first by playing the entire video to make sure it runs properly on the computer you will be using for the presentation. Close and quit all programs and any background applications (screensaver, sleep mode, auto update, etc.) prior to viewing the webcast. Please communicate with your IT department to confirm that you do not have any firewalls in place that might block streaming media.
To begin the webcast, click on the play arrow. The webcast will play either as an Adobe Flash video or HTML5 video. You may be alerted to upgrade your video playback software. You can pause at anytime while the video is playing, then click on the play arrow again to continue. However, if you close the webpage while playing, you will have to start from the beginning the next time you view the video.
