Clinicians will learn step-bystep\nstrategies to assess for the use of a no-leak speaking valve to restore\ncommunication, improve swallow, improve secretion management, and restore\nsubglottic pressure in adults who require tracheostomy. The basics for successful\nassessment and placement of a no-leak speaking valve in-line during mechanical\nventilation will be demonstrated. Attendees will have an opportunity for advanced\nlearning in one of two breakout sessions: (1) advanced session to review ventilator\nsettings, best practice procedures, and safe alarm practice when using a speaking\nvalve; or (2) advanced session on dysphagia assessment and intervention while\ntreating patients with tracheostomy. Attendees will learn the importance of early\nintervention and strategies for utilizing a no-leak speaking valve through case\nstudies.
