Event Name:Energy Transition: Opportunities and Challenges for Latin America

Details:The energy transition is accelerating with opportunities and disruptions varying across regions of the world. The Council’s Latin America Chapter will offer insights to understanding how the energy transition affects the Latin American region, its national oil companies, and overall economic impacts. 

The presentation will focus on what countries are doing now, how the oil and gas industry is pivoting to the energy future, and some possibilities for what we will likely see going forward. 

This is a free event for members and non-members.

Juan Pablo Garavaglia, Equipment & Projects Sr Sales Manager; Strategic Initiatives Leader
Baker Hughes 
Juan Pablo Garavaglia is currently the Sr. Sales Manager of Equipment & Projects for South America and the Strategic Initiatives Leader for LATAM at Baker Hughes. Juan Pablo joined General Electric (GE) in 2015 and after it became Baker Hughes a GE Company, he worked on the transformation of Baker Hughes into an independent energy technology company. Juan Pablo has covered several leadership positions in GE and Baker Hughes since 2015, with his latest focus being infrastructure projects and energy transition. Prior to Baker Hughes, Juan Pablo contributed to other technology companies for nearly two decades, including different responsibilities in services and new units in world class companies like John Crane, MAN and Sulzer.
Juan Pablo holds a Mechanical Engineer bachelor degree from the Argentinean National Technological University, Master of Sciences in Renewable Energy with Wind Specialization, and in 2020 completed an Executive Certification in Strategy and Innovation from MIT Sloan School. 

Cristopher De Luca, Graduate Research Fellow
Rice University

Cristopher De Luca currently works with the Baker Institute, Center for Energy Studies, researching the energy transition in Latin America. Before joining Rice University, De Luca served as Energy and Infrastructure Projects Executive at CAF – Development Bank of Latin America where he developed economic evaluations for projects financed in the region. He also worked as a researcher for the energy department at CAF, expanding his knowledge on current energy activities and challenges for Latin America.

De Luca is currently a candidate for the master’s in Energy Economics at Rice University; he holds a bachelor’s in Economics from Andres Bello Catholic University, and in 2019 he completed a master’s in Finance from IESA School of Management.
