Date and Time: 1/20/24 (prep) and 1/21/24 (firing)

Participants will experience firing their own pieces using the reduction process of raku with the assistance of the instructor. Clay used must be WS5 or other grogged clay.  As with regular 2-step Naked Raku, items must have an area identified as the rim or top to allow for grabbing with tongs.  Terra sig must be applied and up to three reasonably sized items placed on the window ledge for special bisque firing about one week prior to the outdoor firing.  Outdoor firing day will include a quick dip of each pot into a thick mixture which is then placed into the kiln for pre-heating and cracking the surface mix.  Pots will then be fired, smoked and the shell removed with water spray.  This leaves the surface with only smoke crackle marks.  Pots will be finished with wax.

Prep is required to prepare pieces prior day to firing.  Masking at least 1 to 1/2 inches at top for grabbing.

Proper clothing is required: Long pants and long sleeved shirts, and closed toe shoes. Hair must be covered.
Clothing must be natural fiber, not synthetic.
Safety rules will be reviewed at each firing.

Everyone will participate in clean up.
