Description:
Participants will learn how to trace, transfer and carve a clay panel.  Options for stain, glaze and color will be discussed. 
​Pre-requisite:
Before class, participants should plan to roll out a slab of clay about 8" by 10"  and 3/8" thick.   Compress the slab on both sides, then wrap tightly with Saran Wrap or several layers of plastic

Participants will learn:
- tips for managing flat slabs to prevent warping
- carving techniques for creating dimension 


Materials:
  • Clay of choice
  • Tiny loop tool or a set of Kemper carving tools
  • Old toothbrush
  • Assorted paintbrushes
  • Rubber-tipped smoothing tool
  • Rubber rib
  • Small tip black watercolor marker (usually available at Walgreens)
  • Recommended: Bring pictures, examples of Southwest images you'd like to create
