Event Description

Comprehensive analysis of crime scenes is essential to thorough investigation and may
reveal actions critical to determining truth. This thought-provoking 4-day course was
designed to teach detectives, crime scene investigators, and others involved in evidence
analysis to properly interpret actions within an event. Lecture and practical exercises
enhance critical thinking skills by conducting objective analysis to reconstruct actions
and events leading to fact-based conclusions valuable for case adjudication.
Classroom instruction and practical exercises include:
• Context analysis, logical reasoning, scientific basis and investigative
objectivity.
• Techniques for organizing and evaluating information to aid retrievability,
maximize comprehension, and identify evidence relationships.
• Reconstruction through a process of identifying relationships between scene
evidence, forensic analysis, subject, statements and scene context.
• Introduction to bloodstain patterns and how they relate to other evidence.
• Application of the scientific method for resolving sequences in event
analysis.
• Instruction for preparing accurate and comprehensive reconstruction reports.
• Managing expert courtroom testimony.

Class Requirements:
Prior investigative or crime scene experience with bloodstain patterns is
helpful. Attendees shall bring a laptop with USB connection.
Academy attire policy: Uniform or Business Professional (no jeans, no sneakers)
