Many investigators and examiners are unaware or unsure of how to utilize possible identifying evidence contained in inadvertently photographed hands and other ridge detail areas. Billions of images are posted on social media and websites. Understanding this increasingly common type of evidence is critical for the modern-day fingerprint examiner. Being able to advise investigators of the value of this type of evidence is possible when examiners have the knowledge of what is achievable. This presentation includes an update on some more recent developments in this area, including a validation study and some new Photoshop techniques.
